Chevy 3100 Stepside, 5 Window Pickup 1951 'Show Condition'

This is my UK registered 1951 Chevy step side 3100. short wheel base pick up truck.   It has a new m. o. t.  it is taxed and on the road with UK driving insurance and a new style V5c in my name.   This truck has been inspected (v. o. s. a). Unlike most imports of this iconic and the most desirable pickup that Chevrolet has ever made has been restored to exacting standards and having a UK mot is road legal. It is not now just £55 to put these trucks on the road as often advertised but a process which is involved and comprehensive. if done properly.

I have tried to keep this rust free truck true to how it would have left the factory back 63 years ago. but with still being able to use it as an every day vehicle on today's busy roads so the following important changes have been made;

It is fitted with a boxed 235 cubic inches straight six which replaced the inline 6 of only 216 cubic inches.

A 4 speed on the floor gear box is fitted to enable modern travel with easier use in the city/country side and motorway use having better changes with the more powerful engine. (3 speed column change removed)

Front discs conversion with a dual master cylinder and twin servo (mounted under the drivers floor) and only fitted a few hundred miles ago (see pictures of underside) makes this truck stop like a modern car. The discs are vented.

New 12 volt electrics with a alternator and EU battery and terminals together with EU indicators. stop lights. tail lights whilst using some of the 1950's fittings converted for our style light bulbs and voltage.

Two speed electric wipers fitted and working replacing the vacuum style wipers.

Heater in the cab. take off from the block so that it is water/engine heated as in the EU.

Period number plates and rear plate light.

European seasoned solid OAK load bed which has been varnished matt on all edges and t/g temperature controlled stored prior to fitting to ensure long life in our climate. The timber has been machined for this purpose on the underside to allow for seasonal changes to our climate.

New tailgate chains are fitted so that they can be locked if required.

Modern temperature gauges have been fitted for oil and water.

This is not a patched up truck and still retains many of the original features which make this unique; The floor foot starter works first time every time. the foot parking brake with the hand release. original battery lid which is a twist sprung work as it did when new ( hidden under the floor). The rear has an industrial period fender which has a tow pin and is so safe from being rear ended.

This truck back in 1951 was the same colour as it is today (but all off white/cream) and the same colour is still as original inside the cab and underside. the panel fit could not be replicated with perfect shut lines. and the most original drop handles and period locks and internal door furniture.

This truck starts first time from cold with the pull of the choke and bursts into life. when it warms up in just a few moments the choke is returned and the Rochester carbs drive the unit like a new truck. The last service done only last month saw the engine flushed. and gaskets removed and replaced. there are no oil or water leaks on this truck. my garage floor is clean and dry!

On the road this truck drives straight with light steering helped by the period white wall tyres to correct dimensions having had any worn steering joints replaced . and it brakes in a straight line due to the servo and new discs.

The old air intake for the wipers has been used for a 1950 whistle horn from a throttle cable in the cab and the 'Claxton' horn works but is not wired. In the cab it has had new underlay which also makes for sound proofing together with black carpet and inertia reel seat/lap belts.

To sum up this is a well sorted truck with the price expected to rise at a fast rate this year and I am happy to deliver/drive this truck anywhere in Europe. Holland. France. Germany.
