The Car:
Up for auction is a beautiful “bone-stock” Big Block 402 Chevelle. If I was to begin by emphasizing one aspect of this Chevelle that truly stands out. it would be the amount of attention given to detail to keep this Chevelle's stock appearance the same as it would have rolled off of the assembly line. Right down to the clamps used. this Chevelle was done right and kept very original.

Original Sequoia Green Exterior / Interior
The Condition: Show Quality Restoration
The car is painted the original Color. Sequoia Green. and shows stunningly. It is one of the richest and deepest Chevelle colors and. out in the sun. it absolutely turns heads. Photos do not due this car Justice. The black SS stripes give this Chevelle a non-flashy but strong finish. A truly beautiful combination for this muscle car.
Many body shop guys who have seen this Chevelle have commented on the straightness of the car. I'll try to get as many photos as I can to depict the outstanding quality of the body. The trunk compartment shows clean all-around and looks to have the original factory spray coating. The original Jack is in its case!
The paint. as stated above. shows beautifully. On a scale of 1 to 10. I would give the paint an 8. 5+. The paint lays very evenly and has no thin spots anywhere. It is a show quality job and one would be hard-pressed to find flaws. There is one small chip near the front center lip of the hood and there are also two minor chips along the driver's side bottom rocker panel.
This Chevelle shows as good underneath as it does on the top. The underbody and frame are as clean and solid as they come (no rust). I will be sure to include a lot of photos as I feel the underbody usually speaks most on the true condition of a car. The 12 bolt rear end. linkage. suspension. brakes. exhaust. etc. are all in excellent condition.
The interior is kept all original with bucket seats. factory console. and SS gauges (all working flawlessly - including the clock!). There is an added oil gauge. The Muncie shifter was changed out with a hurst (the original shifter components were used at the bottom). The Carpet and headliner are well maintained and in “like-new” condition. I believe the car to have original carpeting (in excellent shape). The seats are very well maintained and have no tears or rips.
The engine compartment is very clean with a stock-kept appearance. housing the matching numbers Big Block (U) 402. A lot of attention to detail was given in this area. No flashy chrome… again. just stock goodness. The headers are starting to show a little oxidation. though. they do not detract much from the excellent condition/detail under the hood as a whole.
The Mechanics:
It would take you no more than half of a minute on a test drive to feel comfortable with the mechanical integrity of this Chevelle. It's tuned and idles just right with a healthy big block Chevelle sound. The car is very well aligned and drives straight. The suspension is nice and tight and takes corners/bumps excellently. The power steering turns with ease (There is no steering whine). You could literally turn this Chevelle with the tip of your pinky finger. The brakes and tires (newer) are both in excellent shape. The car shifts smoothly. The air conditioning blows ice cold. The cowl induction hood works flawlessly. Wipers. lights. Everything… Works.
The engine was pulled out and rebuilt by Kenetix of Livonia. MI using the original manifold. The cam and pistons were changed (8. 5-1 compression)
Other/ History:
The car is stated to be originally from Phoenix. Arizona and then sold and shipped to Manistee. Michigan where it was owned by a father and his son for 20+ years. The car was then bought and owned by a gentleman. Rick (whom I have contact with). in Michigan who had the engine rebuilt. He has owned many Chevelles in the past and commented on how this was the most solid Chevelle he has owned (he's owned many). He spent time. while the engine was out. to be sure the compartment was properly detailed. He also made note that the cowl induction hood was added (done right). and the car did not originally have power steering. however correct components were used.
Me:
I have a passion for classic cars and never miss out on an opportunity to enjoy one as an investment. I live out in Michigan and always have a new classic each year for the Dream Cruise. I always get into solid and original vehicles and will continue to do so. I sold my 69 Chevelle (with protect-o-plate and original bill of sale) earlier this year and the new owner is more than pleased.
Conclusion:
If you were to take a look at most of the Chevelle's on the market today. you would see that this one stands far near the top. It is not only in great cosmetic and mechanical condition. but a very original. matching numbers example of one of America's most iconic muscle cars.
