1973 Mustang Mach 1

2nd Owner!!Factory Ram Air!!79k Original Miles!!Original Condition!!A True Survivor!!70 Pictures and Video!!

On April 16th. 1964 at 9:30 pm on channels ABC. CBS. and NBC Ford Motor Corporation aired a commercial introducing the 1964 ½  Ford Mustang.   It created such a frenzy at the dealerships the next day. everyone wanted to be the first to own the new Mustang.   And for those that couldn't afford to buy one or were too young to drive. they actually went to see it in person at the World's Fair in New York.   You couldn't get any more American than the Mustang.   It was a family sports car that had it all.   Bucket seats. floor shifter and large enough to seat 4 but small enough to be a great looking sports car.   Lee Iaccoca listened. watched and learned what America needed and challenged his designers and engineers to build a car that fit around the American lifestyle.   The launch of the Mustang was so successful that it sold 22. 00 units the very next day after the commercial aired.   For the 7 or so months left in 1964 Ford had sold over 263. 00 units and nearly doubled that in 1965 by selling more than 418. 00 units.   By 1966 over 607. 00 Mustangs were produced and sold breaking the million mark after only18 months since its debut.   It was certain that Mustang was here to stay and assured us that this car would never get side tracked from its original intent and from 1964 to 2014 Mustang stayed true to its heritage.

As the late 60's approached. so did the need for horsepower and speed and by 1969 the engine compartment was redesign to except larger more powerful engines.   But once this engine package was available to the 69 model years. FORD couldn't use the already over used “GT” package so they decided to call them Mach 1's.   The Mach 1 was so popular Ford discontinued the “GT” option and offered the Mach 1 available only in the Fastback style.

This 1973 Mustang Mach 1 is the end of an error for the muscle car wars that occurred in the late 60's and early 70's.   As the EPA started to crack down on Detroit and the insurance rates were sky high for high horsepower cars. the muscle car was becoming a ghost of the past.   This Mach 1 encompasses everything the muscle cars use to be back in the day. a strong stance. rumbling sounding V8 and flashy lines.   In fact. they are still one of the most sought after cars in America.   Please read on about what makes this car so special.   Original ones are hard to find.   We've included many pictures and a video to depict the originality of this vehicle.

Exterior:

As you can see from the pictures on this snowy morning. this Mach 1 presents extremely well for being a true survivor.    The car hasn't been on the road since 1997 and today was the first day it has seen any weather.   The car has been repainted only 1 time in its original Medium Copper color in the mid 90's and still presents very well.   If you decide to use this car as a driver and take to shows and cruise nights then a good cut. compound and polish would do it justice.   If you're going to show the car for judging purposes. a high dollar repaint would be suggested.   At the time of the paint job in the mid 90's new decals were replaced to the appearance.   It still wears all its original Mustang insignias. This car is accident free and the body is rust free and straight.   The floors are solid as is the trunk and sub frames.   All the bright work and chrome are bone stock and original and in excellent condition.   The front  color keyed urethane bumper is in excellent original condition and the rear chrome bumper shines very well and is intact with original rubber.   All the glass is original and tinted from the factory including the rare rear defrost option.   It has all 4 original forged aluminum wheels and all the factory center caps.   The tires are in new condition in the front and the rear has about 85% tread left.   The body under the hood is very solid.   The shock towers. front sub frame and radiator support are all solid.   There are two spots of rust forming on either side of the front fender wells that are only surface rust now and the size of a nickel on one side and a quarter on the other.   An easy fix or just leave alone. but wanted to add that to the description for the very picky buyer/viewer.   We've included as many pictures as we can to depict the originality and condition of this Mustang.   You'll also notice pictures of the serial numbers stamped in the original sheet metal.   Look at the pictures and let us know of any questions you may have.

Interior:

As you can see from the pictures. the interior show's beautifully for being all original.   When we say original. we mean original right down to the original date stamped/tagged seat belts.   The vinyl material shows very little wear for its age and use on both the seats and door panels.   The dash from top to bottom is in excellent condition.   The passenger side door panel arm rest has about a 1” crack in it.   Hardly noticeable but wanted to mention.   This Mach 1 comes with a full gauge package and the whole instrument panel works as it should.   Again. notice the rear defrost option and also the a/c option.   For being a 1973. those two options are still somewhat rare especially for a sports car.   Any chrome and bright work inside is in excellent original condition with minimal wear.   The a/c option did work some years ago and is still all intact from condenser to dash controls.   However. the air that comes out when it's engaged is not cold.   A good service on the a/c is recommended.  The radio works and so does the heat and defrost.   The headliner is in excellent condition and the rear folding seat operates as it should.   The car also comes with the original mirror behind the driver's sun visor.   The original carpet is in excellent condition however is losing its color.   The manual windows operate as they should.   Please look at the many photos we've provided to help you depict the original condition of this interior.   Let us know of any questions you may have.

Drivetrain:

This Mach 1 was ordered from the factory with the 351 engine option and a 2bbl carburetor with factory Ram Air and dual exhaust.   Although horsepower ratings drastically were reduced by 1973. this car still produces 177 horses @ 284 ft. lbs of torque.   The transmission is the FMX select-o-matic 3 speed.   The engine. transmission and rear are all numbers matching and original to the car and only have 79k original miles.   Yes they are original.   Under the hood. the engine compartment still has all original decals. stampings and we found 1 chalk marking hand written by an inspector in 1973.   The car runs excellent and although it's been off the road since 1997 the car is road worthy.   All the belts. hoses. suspension. dual exhaust. tires and brakes are all in road worthy condition.   The engine runs very smooth with a good sounding dual exhaust system.   There are no misfires. taps. knocks or smoke.   The transmission engages nicely and shifts as it should.   The brakes are very strong.   Please listen to the video provided and let us know of any questions you may have.

In Summation:

This Mach 1 is a true second owner vehicle.   The husband and wife that currently own the car now bought the car from the original owner back in 1984 and it has been garaged kept ever since.    The reserve is set at a very reasonable price that will fit any collector's budget.   If you're looking to get into the antique car hobby. this is a great candidate because it's a turnkey show car.   You're not going to win any concourse judging but you may pick up a trophy for originality that permits a repaint.   Anything that this car may need is what we call father son projects that can be completed right in your driveway.   Thank you for visiting and let us know of any questions you may have.

On Jan-17-14 at 11:08:49 PST. seller added the following information:

Please Note: The Ram Air option refers to the hood being a Ram Air Hood.  Under the hood is the 2 bbl air cleaner set up. non Ram Air.  Just wanted to clarify.  Also. the rear was replaced in the mid 90's. The original 2. 75 ratio rear was removed and replaced.  Thank you!
