1966 corvette convertible original big block for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.5) based on 329 votes

Up for sale is a interesting example of corvette history in need of restoration.   1966 was the first year for the 427 big block engine and initially was rated 450 hp. Sometime in early November it was down rated to 425 hp. This car was purchased new in Bresee Chevrolet in a town called Liverpool near Syracuse New York and shows a little over 61000 on the odometer. The title shows 45180 when I bought it but I do not believe that to be original mileage. the car has been driven?. It does not have the original engine. However I have a date coded correct rebuilt 942 block dated 1/10/65 that will go with this sale. I have receipts for 6700 for the short block rebuild alone. A bare 942 4 bolt main block is priced on e-bay between 4000 6000 dollars and the 858 heads are between 1500 and 3000. It is pictured on the stand. It is now a long block with 069 intake. date coded starter. uel pump and water pump. The engine is painted and ready to install. I have not as yet purchased the carb. exhaust manifolds. alternator. distributor. fan. or TI ignition.   The car has the original trim tag showing the build date of A 24 and that it was originally a red car with a black leather interior which it is now. It may have some spots of the original paint on the body. I cannot really tell. The trim tag date and the vin number match a build date of September 24th 1965. That build date and the fact the car has a 6500 tach and evidence of transistorized ignition which were specific to the 425 hp option indicates it could have been originally rated at 450 hp. There was no tank sticker in 1966 they did not start adding them until 1967. Additional big block indicators that are still present on the car are big block hood. big block radiator and shroud. the rear traction bar. heavy duty universal joints. big block splash shields. 3/4 inch tie rod bar. big block oil gauge and big block accelerator bracket. The suspension is a standard big block. not the f-41 option. The body has many cracks in it but still is in presentable condition. The frame is sound but does have a rust through spot that I recently noticed near a rear cross member.  The frame will need to be restored but is now solid and safe to drive. The car is driven quite a bit mostly during the spring. summer and fall. We took it out for lunch today January 17. it was nice out today! The car presently has a 1967 327 #3892657 standard bore corvette motor with a virgin pad and a F-17-7 casting date. This engine I believe was also used in the first Z-28 camaros in 67. The car still has the original spare tire. When I bought the car I had the seats redone and the carpet replaced but otherwise it is original inside. The car is ready for body off restoration but can be enjoyed as is and restored at later time. I have owned and enjoyed the car for almost twenty years. The car is at a point where I have decided I do not have the expertise. time or the garage space to complete the restoration this car deserves. I will be glad to answer any question either by e-mail or by Phone. I will provide my number by e-mail request. The car is presently in Lewes Delaware. I recently moved from New Jersey and the car is still registered and titled in New Jersey. I still maintain a residence and a garage in New Jersey. that is where the 427 engine is.

Just a note that the pictures I took today make the car look better than it is! The pictures of the engine have now been loaded
