For sale is my 1964 Porsche 356 C Cabriolet. vin 159956. with engine number 712311. Production places the car in early 1964 (1964 cabriolet production beginning with number 159833) or the 123rd cabriolet produced that year within a total production of 1694 cabriolets for 1964. Engine number 712311 falls in range of early 1964 production as well (711871 being the number where production started for 1964). Certificate of Authenticity has been applied for from Porsche. Whenever we see this coincidence where car and engine were produced at approximately the same time during the model year we are 99% certain that this is a numbers matching car. We are waiting for the COA to be 100% certain. We have been correct so far. Original color after sanding down some of the paint was Ivory combined with red interior which we see to be original on the door panels and rear seats make for a very attractive combination. We purchased this vehicle from the previous owner who owned the car for more than 30 years. This car came from the southeastern region of the United States so it has not been subjected to road salt. etc. Having said that. this car will need restoration. I have taken pictures of the pans and the battery box area as well as other areas on the car that can be problematic for 356 Porsches. The longtime previous owner said that the mileage was original at 99k and that he had gone through the engine 5000 miles ago. Please see the video below of the engine at idle and the car being driven.

Mechanically the car has been (somewhat) maintained. The car does run and drive and the brakes stop the car well; the transmission shifts through all the gears smoothly and the synchros are good in all gears. Reverse is fine as well. Tires are weather checked. and the dash gauges will need sorting out since the gas gauge does not register and the tachometer jumps around as the car is running. The oil light and generator light work on the car. The previous owner took off the bumpers and installed "A" bumpers.

Interior and top are much more presentable with leather seats and tan convertible top in nice shape and complete. Door panels and rear seats appear to be original red while driver and passenger seat were reupholstered and oatmeal German Square Weave installed in the car. Title has already been applied for at North Carolina DMV to put it the car in the dealership name which we expect to have in 2-3 weeks.
