Chevrolet Camaro Z28 - 1980 for sale
Current customer rating: (444 votes ) based onI am selling my 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 which I've owned since May 2009 due to imminent arrival of a new baby and I really need to get something a little more practical.
The car was first imported into the UK in 2008 and first registered / MOTd by the importer (a trader in classic and specialist cars) in December 2008.
According to the odometer. the car has covered a little under 32. 00 miles from new which is believed to be genuine.
The car is Taxed until the end of June and MOTd until December.
The car came with non-standard wheels (from a Corvette I understand) which I think look very nice. I did also get when I purchased and still have what I believe are the original steel wheels (no tyres) which are black painted / powder coated.
The car is still fitted with the original Californian emmision gear which seems to help if through the MOT with absolutely no issues. The only modification made here was to remove the Catalytic converted to increase the powe slightly but mainly to improve the exhaust note.
As for the interiour the car is in pretty much original condition. the only thing I have really done to it is to replace the US Cd/radio with a UK one. nbsp;replace the speakers (to fill hte holes already cut into the doors / parcel shelf). Additionally. an after market rev counter has been fitted as the original one in the dash does not work.
Overall in my opinion the body work is very good condition especially considering the age of the vehicle. There are a few minor chips and scratches. The area that does let it down is the roof. on either side (mainly the drivers). This has numerous stone chip like marks where the paint bubbled after my cats scratched though the cover (I think). I started to address this just to stop rusting-it really needs doing properly as it is noticable close up but only when the car is highly polished!
This is not a quick car. but its looks fantastic and the 305CI V8 sounds great. and when you kick down and the flaps on the cowl induction hood open up it at least sounds as if you are going fast!
The only other points I can think of are that the clock only works intermittently and there is a slight oil leak / drip at one end of the bell housing. The car central locking almost works but is a bit sticky so i don't use it. The car has air conditioning but I suspect it needs re-gassing (i've actually not tried it).
I've had a couple of bits done to the car by robin Gray at Auto Pontiac. As well as removing the Cat. he changed the front springs as they had been chopped in the states to lowe it but this caused problems with speed humps in the UK. Additionally. the brake master cylinder was replaced as it had started to fail.
I have the original import documentation. Sadly the original build sheet which I found under the back set disintegrated so I no longer have that.
Final points of interest. t runs on regular unleaded fuel and I'm currently paying about £250 per annum fully comprehensive with breakdown cover on a classic car insurance policy so it's not that expensive to run.
Remember if you bid you are bidding to buy the vehicle not just to come and see it. I would require a 10% deposit (by PayPal) on sale and would require final payment by PayPal or cash.
I've tried to describe the car honestly. but the best way to guage things is to come and see it for yourself. I'll answer any questions honestly and will say I don't know if I don't know. NB: Please note that my baby is due to be born this week. so I may not be in a position to answer your questions immediately.
On 06-May-13 at 19:00:14 BST. seller added the following information:
I should probably add that the car is rust free. starts first time every time even when it's been left for a few weeks over winter and drives great!
