History of the 1956 DeSoto FiredomeThe DeSoto Firedome first appeared in 1952. heralding the installation of a Hemi V-8 in the Custom Series. The engine had been available in Chryslers since 1951 but it was the first DeSoto V-8 since 1931. The 276-cid engine generated 160 hp and the new Firedome was offered as a convertible. a station wagon. six- and eight-passenger sedans. a club coupe. and a Sportsman hardtop coupe. List prices hovered around $3. 00.  
In 1956. Chrysler dropped its 6-cylinder DeSoto Powermaster series and added the topline Fireflite series. pushing the Firedome down to entry level status. Still. the Firedome was not a cheap offering. retaining its V8 Hemi Engine. but increasing the 276 c. i. displacement to 330 cid and 230 hp with a larger bore. and coming with a host of features and interior upgrades that were lacking in the Powermaster series.  12-volt electrical system was adopted.


History of THIS 1956 DeSoto Firedome

1956 DESOTO FIREDOME HEMI WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.   THE MOST ORIGINAL DESOTO I HAVE EVER FOUND.  

THIS WAS PURCHASED BY THE ORIGINAL OWNER IN CALIFORNIA AND THEN A RELATIVE PURCHASED IT WHEN HE WAS AWAY IN THE KOREAN WAR. THE RELATIVE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO IDAHO WHERE HE USED THE VEHICLE TILL THE EARLY 1980'S.  THE CAR WAS THEN STORED IN A BARN AND LEFT THERE TILL 2013 WHERE WE CAME ACROSS IT. WE FOUND THIS BEAUTY COVERED IN RODENTS ON THE INSIDE BUT STILL WITH ITS ORIGINAL WHEELS AND TIRES AND NEVER HAVING HAD AN ACCIDENT. THE PAINT WAS SHOT AS WELL AT THE INTERIOR. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TEXAS WHERE WE BEGAN ITS RESTORATION.

CAR WAS COMPLETELY STRIPPED TO BARE METAL. ENGINE WAS FROZEN AND SHOWING ONLY 40. 00 MILES. WE PROCEEDED TO CAREFULLY "UNFREEZE" THE ENGINE. WE TOOK THE HEADS OFF THE CAR. CHANGED ALL THE BELTS AND HOSES AND GASKETS. THE ENGINE NOW SHOWS EXCELLENT COMPRESSION AND DRIVES SMOOTHLY EVEN OVER 90 MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY. NO RATTLE. NO NOISES. NO LEAKS. GASKETS ON THE TRANSMISSION WERE CHANGED AS WELL AS THE SHAFT AND DIFFERENTIAL.  

CAR HAS BRAND NEW EXHAUST. WHEELS AND TIRES.  

ALL CHROME AND I MEAN ALL CHROME WAS PROFESSIONALLY RE-DONE.  

ALL INTERIOR WAS RE-DONE IN LEATHER IN 3 DIFFERENT TONES OF LEATHER WITH THE SAME STITCHING AND DESIGN AS THE ORIGINAL.  

THE 4 ORIGINAL HUBCAPS WITH THE ORIGINAL WHEELS AND TIRES COME WITH THE CAR.  

NEW PROFESSIONAL PAINT JOB

NEW CARPET IN THE VEHICLE AND EVEN IN THE TRUNK.

NEW HEADLINER

NEW BRAKES AND POWERSTEERING
