1924 REO Model V. TaxiCab. A REO factory built TaxiCab. REO used the Speedwagon Chassis as the base. so it has the 4 Cylinder engine with starter. As best I can tell it is original. Have a 1964 Nevada title (the original not a copy) with Harrah's Club as the owner. Early 70's books about the Harrah's collection list a 1924 REO TaxiCab. It was sold by Harrah's in 1983 and ended up in San Jose. CA. In 1985 it went to Menlo Park. CA. where it sat until 2007 when I got it. I had the gas tank cleaned and sealed. I cleaned out the fuel lines and vacuum tank and carburator. Repacked the water pump. Had to clean the crankcase and changed all the fluids. The car starts and runs great. The generator and some interior lights do not work. The most serious rust issue is the area around the windshield. Safety glass was installed at some point long ago. Four deviations from the "all original" statement: it has an Optima battery. he stop and tail light are items I put on so could drive it and the steel wheels are cut downs. The original wheels were disc but sized 33"x4. 5" not the current 6. 00x20. The tires were put on in 1985 and still have the casting nibs on the tread and sidewalls. It also has a Fare Meter. do not know if it is the original. This is a very good running car and shows well where ever I take it.

This is the only REO Taxi listed in the REO Club of America roster. So it is either the only known REO taxi or at the very least one of few. Please see the pictures for scans of a REO brochure about their Taxi Cab and copies of literature from the era about the REO Taxi.   When it was sold in 1985 Harrah's suggested that the Taxi had been used in Palo Alto. CA. I have been through the Palo Alto Historical Society archives and could not find anything to confirm this. I have an information request in with the National Automobile Museum in Reno for any information on the Taxi prior to 1964 when Harrah titled the vehicle. Any other questions please contact me. The Taxi is located in Livermore. CA.
