This Lotus Cortina Mk 1 was imported by myself from the United States last year . it had been in the hands of the owner for over 20 years and he is a Lotus enthusiast. he was running out of time to restore the car so he sold it to me . and now I am going to run out of time to do it also . I have done nothing at all to it you can see the shipping numbers still on the screen
The mileage is 34000 recorded on the speedometer . was told this was guaranteed when I bought it . I don't really have any reason to dispute this according to the condition of it inside but I have no proof . /strong>
it is a Lotus chassis number complete with the original tag and would be confirmed to the new owner as part of the sale agreement
Is a1966 all steel Lotus Cortina LHD originally supplied new to America. according to the owner its just had three owners including himself and he believed that the mileage of 34000 was genuine but there is no history or proof of that either way.
Its rare in my opinion because although it needs a big restoration it has never been done before so it will give someone the chance to do a perfect job
I believe that the only bodywork its had done is to repair the strut tops at some time . all the other panels look original to me . the rear wheel arches are completely solid on both sides . its hard to find one that's still in its original shell .
All its original equipment is with it except the gear knob . It has the origional steering wheel . speedometer. clocks . dashboard. handbrake lever . Bumpers. 4 hubcaps . ll air filters and piping and air box intact . nbsp; correct seats . centre console with original Indy badge . correct period Lotus badges. front and rear suspension are all there intact . with every clip and screw it came with . nbsp;all the bits you cant normally find are there with it . it just wants dismantling . painting and decorating and putting back together. the carpets are origional and have never been out complete with the hessian soundproofing underneath .
The exhaust is off and in the boot so I have never attempted to start it but the previous owner says that it had an engine rebuild shortly before he bought it but theres no evidence . but hey that's the easy bit .
Its been sitting outside in New York for 20 years and the sun has took its toll on the paint burning it off the panels . then of course the panels have oxidised but its just a coating of fine rust that just rubs off with some wet and dry and leaves the perfect steel untouched underneath. you can see from one picture I just spent two minutes rubbing off the surface rust to get to the shiny metal . it really looks worse than it is . I will try to add some pictures
Yes it will need some repair panels to the bottom of a front and rear wing and a front panel repair . some small chassis rails underneath are required and the front chassis rail has had it but they are all cheap easy to fix panels and are all available . the rear wings and doors are in lovely condition and the lip on the rear wheel arches is all complete . the trim is all with it but you will have to renew it after 40 odd years to get it perfect .
Its probably worth more than £30. 00 restored to concourse so whats it worth like this and LHD ? . I am not sure really but if you want to build a perfect one for yourself then this is a good one to start with and as I say it has everything it came new with and they all belong to the car as it left the factory . there should be no arguments about what is original and what isn't . it hasn't lived somewhere where it could be messed about with .
For the purists . the cars is on the Lotus Cortina Register along with the owners name that sold it to me . all its numbers match and its chassis tag is in place and origional .
Personally I don't want to sell it but I wont get round to restoring it myself
If help is needed shipping it overseas I can deal with that for you
I could make it look better in the pictures but whats the point it needs stripping down any way
you can see the buy it now price and it probably sounds crazy to some people who would love to get this for £5000 but look at the prices asked for the finished cars some asking £50000 . and £20. 00 for a restored GT Cortina of course I know they don't all sell but you could get this concourse for £30. 00 . cheaper if you did the work yourself . oh and buy the way they are not making anymore of them . add up the cost of the parts that are with this
If you need any more information or wish to view it then give me a call Steve 07721 496006
I can ship it worldwide if needed
