Description

1966 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster

concours/knkoor noun. An exhibition or contest, especially a parade of vintage or classic motor vehicles in which prizes are awarded for those in the best original condition.

Provenance abounds with this beautifully restored 66 Corvette Roadster in the form of a two-time winner of the NCRS-Duntov Mark of Excellence Award, and passing the Performance Verification Test. This car scored a 97.3 out of 100 at the nationals and has been displayed in the National Corvette Museum. All paperwork pertaining to the restoration taking up 2 notebooks, as well as restoration photos on a disc will come with this car.

Exterior
Bathed in Milano Maroon this no-fault fiberglass exterior presents in excellent condition. All original chrome on the bumpers, rocker cover trim, window surrounds, and hood bump vents, as well as badging is very good. A black canvas convertible top with a clean clear plastic rear window are showroom condition and operate perfectly. 15-inch aluminum faux knockoff wheels are on all 4 corners, and consigner states that original wheels and tires are available for additional cost if interested.

Interior
Black vinyl covers the 2 bucket seats and show in tuck and roll centers with smooth bolsters. These are inset into a molded plastic tub and have a surrounding chrome trim at the meeting of the two materials. Excellent condition would describe the buckets. These float in a sea of near perfect black carpet, with no fading or smudges. A center console races up the center, and houses the chromed shift lever, and ashtray. Moving upward we see the vertically mounted radio as well as a large working clock and air flow knobs. The borders of this upward motion go their separate ways and form the eyebrows that house the gauge cluster which is perfectly clean, and the glovebox on the passenger's side. The original restored steering wheel fronts this dash, and on either side are the pristine door panels.

Drivetrain
A numbers matching 427ci 425hp V8 L72 casting number 386992 which decodes to a 1966 427ci 425hp engine. The engine stamping shows T0209IP 6115245 which was built at the Tonawanda plant on 2/09/66 followed by the consecutive unit number. The correct Holley carburetor -#3886 101 EI is topping the correct intake manifold #3855069. Also, the correct alternator and starter are attached. Beautiful Chevrolet orange/red covers the block and valve covers. The entire environment looks like new with shiny supple hoses, near perfect spark plug wires, and a clean underside of the flip forward hood. A 4-speed Muncie M21 transmission which is numbers matching throws power back to a FB stamped code 4.11 gears and was produced on 3/1/66.

Undercarriage
All clean and structurally sound undercarriage with original fiberglass tubs, and spare tire well. The view from under the engine looking forward looks like polished jewelry with nary a drip on the oil pan, shiny bolts, and polished brake covers. Exhaust is perfect and does not look to have been used very much. Note the photos of all stampings for verification.

Drive-Ability
Due to the excellent condition of this car we did not do a drivability test, although when it arrived the consigner drove it, and states there is nothing inoperable on the car. You can view the NRCS Scoring summary.

I can personally tell you that this is a museum piece, is concours quality on the restoration, and a real excellent overall presentation. For the serious Corvette Collector, a treasure in a condition that few exist within. Saying it sat within the Corvette Museum confines is speaking very loudly as to overall quality. Enough said!
