Here we have for sale my Porsche 914 1. 7L from 1971. I aquired the car as a project car just over a year ago but have come to realise that I just don't have the time or inclination to get the last few jobs finished. The car had been removed from the road several years ago when the engine had let go. the engine and gearbox were removed for repair. but then it sat in the corner of a garage gathering dust.
Once in my possession. the body needed cleaning up. a few small rust repairs needed doing and general detailing. including paint work to the boot's and engine bay. The car has been restored at some point in its life and repainted silver. there are a few blemishes here and there if you look very closely. but on the whole is a very very tidy and presentable car. The bumpers and sills were removed and painted satin black to freshen them up. The bumper rubbers are original and are in pretty good condition for a 914. but do have the usual ripples on the front one.  The underside of the car is totally soild. it was inspected for rust. cleaned and has been stone-chip undersealed in black.
I sourced a complete and correct 1. 7L fuel injected engine and ECU from a running car in Germany. then had it shipped here ready for fitting. The original clutch was fairly new. so it got reused. The heat exchangers were in good condition. so have been clean and painted. the exhaust was also fairly new and is a Bursch sports system. The brakes are all working. the rear calipers were refurbished units and all the disc's are in very good condition with hardly any ware. I have fitted a good used Bosch starter motor and the engine turns over strongly with a good spark. I have had the car running from a fuel can using gravity as a feed and it ran well. it revved up smoothly and sounded good. but will probably want setting up once driving. There is a working electronic fuel pump fitted to the car. but this still needs wiring up and the hoses connecting from the fuel tank. but they are all there and ready to go.
The wheels are original 15" Rivera Alloys as fitted to many 914's of the period. they are in nice original condition. all the tyres are good and have plenty of tread on them. The interior is in good condition. the carpet set is new. the door cards look new. the drivers seat bolster is new due to ware on the original. but the rest is original and very tidy for the year. The horn pad on the sterring wheel is missing. but the horn does work when tested. The ashtray lower part is missing. the rh door opener chrome cup is also missing. the rear view mirror is included but it has a crack in the glass. These parts are always on ebay and can usually be had for under £100. The exterior chrome trim on the car is mostly the original and does have some marks. but nothing detrimental to the overall look of the car. The front and rear boot carpets are original. but it does need a spare wheel as it is missing.
The main job left to do is regarding the electrics and dash gauges. I can't seem to any of the gauge instruments to work properly. The background lighting is working and the indicator bulbs also glow but don't flash. I have replaced the ignition switch with a new unit and did originally get the ignition light to come on. but its now not working. If your good with electrics. this should be an easy fix. unfortunately I'm no auto electrician! The headlights pop up and down as they should and all the side lights work. the indicators did use to work. but have now stopped. could be a relay. earth problem or hazzard switch. The rear boot lid springs are in place. but need setting up so they lift the lid. its a tricky job. but if I get the time before the auction ends. I'll try to get it done.
So with these last few jobs done. it should pass an Mot. I just don't have the time at the moment to complete this project. so am offering it for sale in the hope that it will find a new home or for someone to finish and make a bit of profit. Once done it will be a very nice 914 and judging at the prices of other cars around at the moment. could be worth up to 12k or more and the prices seem to be moving up fast. I have the V5 in my name and a few of the old mot certificates. some old invoices. including a bill when the car was imported into the UK in 1990 from the USA. I think I have covered most things. but I am selling this as an unfinished project. you are welcome to come and have a good look at it or email me with questions.
