1949 Chevrolet 1/2 ton series 3100. All original. Low miles 216 6 cylinder with 4 speed. Includes options like shock absorbers, turn signals, heater, chrome bumpers, and padded arm rests. This is a 4th owner truck. Built in Janesville WI April 1949. The truck came with a 3 speed originally, but now has a very sweet 4 speed which often came as an option. It is still 6 volt and runs beautifully with original hydraulic brakes, manual steering, and overload rear springs. The third owner is a friend of mine and he owned it some 50 years. My wife, Raquel, bought it at Kevin's auction in spring of 2019. This truck has NEVER been stored outdoors and rarely driven in the snow. The wood box floor is gone and now has a partial heavy steel plate in the box floor. All zerk fittings take grease and the steering and king pins are free of play. The clutch and brakes are good, and the motor runs beautifully. I didn't get the original oil bath air cleaner with it, but I can maybe find one locally. Aluminum wheels are off a square body Chev Blazer and tires are a 9.50 15" size. It has single exhaust with a glasspack. The motor is a 1949 216 but from a much lower mileage truck. The interior is mostly original and the headliner sadly had to be removed because of a mouse nest. The door panels and dash are original. The fuel tank was recently removed and cleaned also the sending unit was replaced and everything reinstalled with fresh non-oxy fuel. The body work was done by Kevin's Dad in his garage near Two Harbors Minnesota, but the work is quite marginal at best. Since Kevin works for NASA out west his Dad wanted to play with the truck and patched some small rust areas and applied a poor spray coat of alkyd Rust-Oleum red. At least any rust has been delayed and the pickup was stored in a barn. When Kevin's Dad passed it was time to have an estate auction and Kevin decided to include his pickup truck, which he owned since 1972, in the auction. It was originally purchased in North Dakota where it had spent most of its first 25 years. I thought I could buy it directly from Kevin, my wife, Raquel, loved it's looks and stance. When Kevin tried to get it running for the crowd, working ahead of time, the rotten fuel was causing misfire. As you must have figured that Dad put in regular ethanol pump gas at one point, and it phase separated. The little 216 bent a couple push rods and they jumped out of place. That was the last it ran for a month or so, till I had time to replace push rods, set valves, change oil, and rebuild the fuel system. We actually paid much more at the auction then I could have bought it directly from Kevin. There was one Old timer there with money spilling out of his pockets who wanted to buy it for his grandson. Stupid move by me, but Raquel wouldn't back down, she wanted that pickup.
I'm not sure what your intentions are here but this truck could go as an original restoration or a hot rod or even as a daily driver. You cannot take this truck to town without getting undivided attention. It is stored in my shop for now and if this listing stirs up some interest I can supply more pictures to the interested buyer. Otherwise it can set right there next to my first 2 cars, and age like fine wine. You wouldn't be looking here if you didn't already know that these little Chevy 3 window half tons really "define" our country....at least for what it "used" to stand for. Freedom, hard work, solid engineering, and honesty. Someday the "barn hunters" might find my stash in the woods of Northern Minnesota, but maybe....if the right guy acts on this listing, there will be one less classic, covered with spare parts and dust, for the crew to drool over. Thanks for looking. Tim
