"... the 1948-1953 Chevrolet... pickup models offered a timeless design...." – Robert Tate

Automotive historian, Robert Tate, tells more of the Chevy truck story of this era: "In 1948, General Motors introduced a new line of Chevrolet truck designs. Although Chevrolet automobiles were unchanged until 1949, the trucks were beginning to set a new design trend in the industry. The 1948 Chevy truck designs were so popular that they remained unchanged, except for the front grille styling, through the 1954 model year."

"GM called the 1948 Chevrolet truck model line the 'Advance-Design,' which led the truck industry in post-war improvements. The pickup truck models offered increased load capacity for the driver. The tailgate and platform cargo area were very strong when it came to hauling heavy loads."

Offered here is a superbly restored and respectfully upgraded 1951 Chevrolet 3100 pickup, originally from Texas. (This is the fifth evolution of the "Advanced Design" trucks.) Metallic Western Brown and Black over black custom two-tone tan interior, a slightly lowered stance, freshened straight-six power, and painstaking attention to detail altogether makes for a very handsome take on a truly classic Chevrolet truck. Just 28 miles have been added since the restoration work was completed.

The exterior paint combination was a terrific choice as it perfectly highlights the many curved sheet-metal panels that made the "Advance Design" of the trucks so timeless. Sadly, curves like these can no longer be found on current trucks. Professionally applied to a very high standard, the finish is uniformly glossy and free of imperfections. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the truck in the accompanying gallery.) All chrome-including the bespoke five grille slats, front bumper, headlight bezels, window trim, door handles, side mirror, and taillights-is in exceptional condition. Cabin glass-notably the split front windshield-is crystal-clear and free of cracks or other damage. Lighting lenses are similarly pristine. Stock badging, in the form of the "Chevrolet"-with-bowtie hood-front emblem in its correct colors, "Chevrolet" hood-side emblems, and "Chevrolet"-embossed tailgate, is all properly in place and in virtually perfect condition. The truck's cargo-bed floor is beautifully finished in dark-stained wood panels with chrome rub strips (free of any sign of use or wear). Red-painted, stock steel wheels with chrome trim rings and chrome "Chevrolet"-branded (in red) hubcaps are mounted with wide-whitewall tires.

Inside, the truck's interior appointments have been substantially upgraded and refined without losing the appeal of the classic design cues. Red-stitched charcoal leather upholstery with brown, vertically pleated center inserts is very well-crafted and attractive. The door trim panels mirror the upholstery design and materials (including the red stitching). Black carpeting covers the cabin floors. The stock, 3-spoke steering wheel with correct center emblem painted in the Western Brown exterior color fronts the steel dash painted the same color. Classic Instruments® chrome-rimmed analog speedometer and related gauges feature art-deco type on platinum faces. To the right of the driver, the dashboard wears stock, chrome, art-deco-design trim extending its remaining width. A period-look push-button radio is mounted in the dash, and the correct Chevrolet-branded heater is properly in place. The shift lever (for the rebuilt Th350 automatic transmission) is fashioned to mimic a manual-transmission shifter.

Under the hood, a re-crafted 292-cubic-inch Chevrolet straight-six perfectly commands a well-ordered and pristine engine bay. Including two Weber carburetors, a Clifford Performance® "6=8" induction system, and MSD® Street-Fire electronic ignition system, the engine is an impressive sight. (Note: Full Clifford "6=8" details can be found online at: store/ols/categories/chevy-250292 ). Viewed from below, the chassis is complete, straight, and undamaged. There is only the barest minimum of surface rust on some untreated metal, notably the leaf springs.

The truck has a reproduction identification tag riveted in place.

While the more than 140 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '51 Chevy 3100 in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

This beautiful '51 Chevy truck 3100 is bound to be the star at any gathering of the bowtie faithful. And upon close inspection of its charms and build quality, the accolades and awe will only grow. Heck, even a few blue-oval guys may find it irresistible.

About Garage Kept Motors

Garage Kept Motors, LLC specializes in classic and specialty online auto sales.

For our consignors, we are the only auto brokers that offer a Transparent Sale Disclosure. This means, when a car sells, we provide an exact copy of the Bill of Sale. We do this so our clients know exactly who bought their car, where it went, and most importantly how much we sold it for. No funny business.

For our buyers, our vehicles are listed on the Internet, with over 100 photos, including undercarriage pictures, and walk-around videos of the vehicles running plus a narrative-style write-up of the cars history and features. Our international exposure allows us to sell cars across the globe, and we sell a majority of them out of state and overseas. We deliver honesty and consistency in our photos and descriptions, a “no surprise” approach, so buyers, both near and far, can invest with confidence sight unseen. We are not a gallery. Vehicles can be seen locally by appointment as potential buyers are given our undivided attention.
