SELLER REMARKS

Looking for a high-quality. low-priced way to get into the old car hobby? One that doesn't have any downsides like scarce parts or lazy performance? Then take a good look at this 1948 Ford sedan. which is the ideal way to enjoy vintage motoring with the entire family.

The rounded styling of the immediate post-war Fords has been a favorite of car fans for generations. and the sleek fastback sedan doesn't get enough credit as a trend-setter. It takes your basic 4-door and gives it STYLE without giving up practicality. This one has been nicely restored. and quite honestly that's rather rare. With values well below their 2-door and convertible siblings. it takes passion and heart to bring a 4-door back to this condition and I. for one. appreciate it. The burgundy paint is correct and looks right on the fat-fendered Ford and the finish work is quite good. especially considering that there were twice as many doors to align and fit. The trunk lid shows even gaps all around. a tricky proposition at best. and the pointed hood sits flush with the fenders. Luckily. most of the trim is stainless steel. so it's a snap to maintain that soft 1940s shine without an expensive trip to the chrome shop and a few period accessories like the visor. fog lamps. and spotlight give it a wonderful period vibe.

Even though this was Ford's basic transportation model. it sure doesn't look it inside. The striped upholstery is period-correct and looks mature and understated. and shows minimal wear. Gray vinyl door panels provide very low maintenance and show off the original hardware and plastic escutcheon plates. Ford provided a full set of instruments with all their cars. with four square auxiliary gauges and a large round speedometer for a cool '40s tech look. Radios were still optional in 1948. and sadly this car didn't get one. but it does have a heater/defroster unit that you'll appreciate on cool evening drives in the country. And despite the sloping roofline and trunk. there's plenty of space for luggage. even with the full-sized spare and jack stowed back there.

With the flathead V8 getting all the attention these days. it's easy to forget that the 226 cubic inch inline-six Ford offered was actually a better performer in stock form. It gave up 5 horsepower to the V8 but made the same amount of torque. and in regular driving. I doubt you'll be able to discern a difference in performance. You will. however. see better fuel mileage and it's arguably smoother out on the open road. as is typical of inline-six engines. It wears a coat of modern Ford Blue paint. which isn't correct but looks great in the vintage engine bay. especially with the flashy red plug wires on top. It still breathes through the original downdraft carb and oil bath air cleaner. and channels power aft though a 3-speed manual transmission. The undercarriage is driver-grade. but the hardware is reliable and comfortable. and with plentiful parts. it's easy to service. Color-matched steel wheels with hubcaps and trim rings give it upscale appeal and they wear 600x16 wide whites for that classic old car look.

Give the six a chance and I don't think you'll be disappointed. Better yet. get the whole family involved and get out there and have fun in this afFORDable old car. Call today!
