1932 Ford “Striking Gold” Roadster

This is a timeless, Hollywood-Inspired, Hot Rod, hand built in Southern California, with extreme attention to detail by Art Engle with all the right ingredients for a mid-60's themed mod custom classic hot rod.This Model B Deuce, currently registered and titled in upstate, NY, is titled as a '32 and has won numerous awards on the West and East coasts since its completion in 2013. It has been featured in magazines and promotions. It turns heads, demands smiles as it gets all the attention, everywhere it goes.

Body ::

Steel ‘32 grille shell and polished insert surround are hiding a Griffin radiator. A four-blade fan shares cooling duties for this highboy. A glass Harwood 2” stretched (in the drivers compartment (not the doors) body, 2” (angle) channel at windshield was the conscious choice for this fender-less deuce. Harwood was the Cadillac of fiberglass bodies. Harwood has stopped manufacturing these and they are getting harder and harder to find. These bodies are stamp steel reinforced and have fantastic door and deck lid alignments. They also used Kevlar in their body construction. The doors open and close perfectly. The roadster didn't travel far for its finish by Ryan Kayler of RJ's body in Pleasanton, California. By the end of the 50's, hot rodders were shooting other colors besides various dark colors and reds, gold was a good color choice to grab attention at shows or on the streets. Ryan handled the final bodywork and painted it in an attention getting, simple but timeless House of Kolor Solar Flop Gold. Hand pinstriped, by Dave Wyeth, in Rhinebeck, NY on the trunk, original ‘32 headlamps, grill and dash. Locking Ford gas cap. The dash has also been signed by KevDogg, Charity and Dave Kindig of Kindigit Design. Going hood-less lets the Deuce show off the swirl engine turned aluminum firewall. Sid Chavers custom fitted white pearl vinyl folding BopTop with a SidShivers canvas storage case. The floor under the emergency brake has been braced. Shaved hinges and door handles. ‘39 Ford Taillights and Harley Davidson Guide style front turn signals. Two ‘32 VIN number plates mounted on drivers door pillar and firewall. To change things up a bit, custom black pearl metallic paint was used on the front and rear straight spreader bars, headlight and taillight mounts.

Chassis, Transmission and Rear ::

Underneath is also flawless and looks clean enough to eat off of and shines up with a mirror finish. This car is a 10/10. Boxed frame from LRS of Mt. Vernon, Missouri. The rails feature a sweeping “C” to lower the body. The mostly chromed, by Valley Plating, frontend components include a 4-inch drop I-beam in between '37 Ford spindles and a split wishbone and a SO-CAL Speed Shop chrome front leaf spring. Chrome shocks and panhard bar are from Pete & Jake's. The rest of the front end is polished stainless. Combined with the gold paint and the brightwork on the engine and wheels, the effect is impressive. The 11” Wilwood front disc brakes are concealed by polished SO-CAL's “Buick finned Big Brake” disc covers and silver coated 11” Ford rear drums provide plenty of stopping power while maintaining the roadsters vintage look. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a built ‘66 GM Saginaw T-10 Four-Speed manual transmission, Hyes clutch and disc, topped by a gorgeous chrome factory NOS ‘66 Chevelle Hurst shifter equipped with a sliding pull up T-handle for Reverse Lock-Out. The welds on the Johnson 3.25 posi-traction 9-inch, 32 spline axle Ford rear differential have been blended and it has been finished in metallic silver enamel paint. The rear rides on a triangulated four bar system and Pete & Jake's Viper adjustable coil-overs handle the ride in the rear. Auto lamp MFG 430 Headlights and ‘32 Ford Taillights. Optima Red Top battery, trunk mounted battery switch and a Tanks 10-gallon saddle tank.

Wheels and Tires ::

The Rocket Strike polished wheels with Spinners wrapped in Firestone Deluxe Champion 4” wide white wall tires, 5.60-15 front, 8.20 X15 rear stay consistent of the period appearance and blend street style and strip attitude. If the purchaser of this ‘32 prefers the drag race favor, a second set of 15” chrome reverse wheels with Hurst repro Wide White 8” Vintage Slicks and Firestone Deluxe 5.60-15 Bias WWW fronts that match the Rod Authority Magazine, Striking Gold September 2014 article appearance, are also available for purchase, separate from this auction.

Engine ::

A detailed, white enamel coated, 1964 283 cubic inch Chevrolet engine, packs power and has been bored .030 over before being professionally built by Victory Machine in San Jose, California. It features fresh  “fuelie” double hump heads, 1.7 roller rockers, custom grind Isky mild cam, Mallory ignition, AC Delco spark plug wires, cloth wiring, twin tuned Edelbrock/Carter AFB style 500 Performer four barrel carburetors with ‘62 Corvette tabs, early Corvette Winters Foundry dual quad aluminum intake manifold, mechanical fuel pump, chrome oil filter housing, Moon finned polished with custom white painted, in between the fins, valve covers and a polished finned aluminum 5-quart capacity oil pan helps keep the oil cool. Vintage accessories include a Cal Custom Voltage regulator, vintage exposed wiring and a short case 12 volt satin black short case generator mounted with a chrome Mr. Gasket header bracket. Chrome Patriot headers with caps, bolt on Turnouts, direct the exhaust down to, piped through Nickel plated Magnaflow mufflers sweeten the exhaust notes.

Interior ::

The quality of the exterior carries over to the bare essential, super clean vintage cabin that still smells like new. Bone white, hand stitched, diamond pleat tuck marine vinyl is the right match, both in terms of period styling and bright appearance. Glide bench seat, door, firewall and kick panels are covered in the hand-stitched upholstery. Ivory lap belts. Goolsby pedals, Lokar throttle, traditional style chrome turn indicator switch, chrome parking brake lever. A clean Painless Wiring Harness installation provides power perfectly to each polished bezel black face Stewart Warner (SW) Wings instrumentation, mounted in a central swirl machine-turned bezel on the dash. SW instruments consist of a 0-160 mph speedometer, 10-16V voltmeter, E-1/2-F fuel level, 100-240°F coolant temperature scale and 0-80 psi oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer gauge shows just under 3400 original miles, the small distance covered since the build was completed in 2013. A working horn button is located under the left side of the molded in dash. A trunk latch control is located under the drivers side dash to the left of the horn. Everything works: All of the dash gages, Bluetooth stereo, turn signals and headlights. No bells and whistles but a Dixco ‘60's vintage tach is mounted to the polished steering column just below the Mooneyes, custom white, 4-hole steering wheel help define this true hot rod. Insulated with a complement of Dynamat covering the floors, interior firewall and inside the trunk and doors. Under dash 12V socket charging port mounted in a custom machine turned trim panel. GM loop style ivy gold cockpit (stitched around the emergency brake) and trunk carpets, custom matched interior and trunk mats, oak wood windshield trim and matching JVC bluetooth duel stereo speaker system.

Countless hours were spent sourcing the right period correct flavors for this completely different build from the normal modern street rod. Strong money (over 140k) and time has been invested to create this timeless hot rod that combines racing looks and show quality with a flare of the 1960's. Currently stored and covered in a temperature controlled private garage in Upstate, New York and when it was not raining, we used to drive it after work, to dinner or cruise nights. It is very clean, it's always been garage kept, enclosed trailer-ed and pampered. Now it's time for someone else to enjoy it. From top to bottom, this deuce is an exceptional condition, the paint, interior and undercarriage are all mint. Never raced, never driven in rain or any bad weather and it has been well maintained, covered and cared for with frequent zinc oil additive changes and hand waxing. This 1932 Ford mid-60's style hot rod is now being offered with multiple magazines featuring the car and comes with a clean transferable 1932 Ford NYS registration.
