1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS

The Chevy Chevelle is a vehicle we hold near and dear to our hearts. It's an iconic muscle car that led the pack during its time. If you love the Chevelle as much as we do, you'll probably be interested in these fun Chevelle facts: 1. The Chevelle was built in 10 different plants in two countries during its 10 year run. 2. Surprisingly, the Chevelle shared a platform with both the Monte Carlo and the El Camino. 3. There was a version of the Chevelle only available in Canada that had a slightly different grille and trim. It was called the Pontiac Beaumont. 4. The Chevelle was the intended successor of the Tri-Five but ended up carving out its own place in Chevy history.

For consignment, a 1969 version of the Chevrolet Chevelle SS with a documented warranty replacement 396ci V8 done in August of 1972, a date correct Muncie 4-speed with a Hurst shifter, a correct 12-bolt rear with 3.55 gears and Positraction, the original interior, original order invoice, repair paperwork for the warranty engine replacement, documented 32,580 original miles and a mostly original paint job have it all looking great here at Classic Auto Mall.

ExteriorDusk Blue paint in consignor stated mostly original with only 2 spot ins, the exterior panels remain straight with decently minded gaps. Some scratches throughout, a few dents and dings and overall patina is present as we scan the exterior. We do note a repair at the bottom of the passenger's fender with body filler being evident. A sporty white stripe runs lengthwise down the sides up the car giving nice contrast to the sea of Dusk Blue. An aggressively angled front grille has dual headlights that flank a mostly black egg crate grille with a pristine SS badge in the middle. A dual bumped hood leads its way back to the original windshield that has been professionally labeled to show all of the cars finer points. Bumpers are all clean and shiny, and 14-inch Magnum 500 style wheels are all around wrapped in raised white letter radials.

InteriorA gander at the trim tag shows that this car was born with a black vinyl bucket seat interior. It is very nicely preserved and original with clean and straight padded door panels in black and buckets also that retain their good padding and nice shine. A good looking center console races between the buckets, has a storage compartment, and houses the factory original chrome Hurst shifter. Looking at the dash we see all original equipment nice and clean and in very good condition. The same can be said for the steering wheel and the radio AM/FM that still works! Black carpet floods the floors, and a nice tight black headliner hangs above. It's 1969 all over again in here!

DrivetrainLifting open the long hood we are met with what could be best described as automotive jewelry with a bright orange colored block and intake manifold, and some chrome valve covers and air cleaner. This is a warranty replacement with a correct CE stamping code 396ci V8 that was replaced in 1972 when the car had a mere 28,502 miles clocked on the odometer. A 1972 vintage Rochester 4-barrel Quadrajet carburetor feeds fossils to the mill to burn and turn a date-correct Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission, and a 12-bolt rear stamped KJ sporting 3.55 Positraction gears puts power to the ground. We do note that the casting date on the rear axle housing is missing the casting month but the part number and stamping date are correct for this build.

UndercarriageUnderneath is looking all good with black paint and minor surface rust on the frame and floor pans. Some suspension components and the rear axle appear to have a fresh coat of paint giving the undercarriage some "wow" factor. Power front disc and rear drum brakes are noted as is power steering. Newer dual exhaust snakes it way rearward and has stock replacement style mufflers attached before exiting at the rear of the car.

Drive-AbilityA turn of the key and we are all fired up. We shifted into 1st gear, and we are off like a prom dress! This car runs great, handles well, and has awesome acceleration. It is ergonomically near perfect for my stature which some may call mildly portly, and under 6 feet tall. A nice ride all in all and a definite throw back in time due to the originality and low, low miles.

Probably the best year design wise for the Chevelle, they got it right with the angled front and rear, nicely placed chrome trim, and snazzy striping. The engine bay is just beautiful on this car and it's not often to find a low mile documented big block Chevelle SS. With mostly original paint, a documented replacement engine, and a sales invoice it's hard to deny the parance (sic) that this car carries. A classic right here at Classic Auto Mall.
