S500 SWB W140 only 96k miles and 2 previous ownersThe Mercedes-Benz W140 was the flagship of Mercedes-Benz from 1991 to 1998. This generation of S-Class is alleged to have cost one billion dollars to develop, resulting in an over engineered machine that dominated the executive class of the nineties. The build quality and sheer road presence of this car is palpable as you glide along. This was the last hurrah to engineering opulence which is just not found in Mercedes' (or any other mainstream luxury brands) today. For example, the car boasts soft close doors, as well as small antennas that pop out when you engage reverse to mark the end of the boot... Registered on 01/01/1994 this particular vehicle is the rarer (and in my opinion better looking) shorter wheelbase. Approximately 22,000 units were produced in short wheelbase, while about 65,000 were produced in limousine version. Equipped with the M119 V8 engine producing 315bhp and 347 lb ft this S500 is capable of dispatching 0 to 60 in a respectable 7 seconds, making this car quite swift and remarkably agile in corners despite its size. All in all, this car is a great testament to the 90's automotive engineering, which currently represents a great mix between modern comforts and classic elegance. Extremely useable, you can enjoy the ultimate comfort of the ride (the heated seats are some of the most comfortable this side of a plush sofa) while being able to count on the engine and chassis should you wish brisk progress. =============================Approximately £5,000 was spent over the last 12 months (a number of invoices are also present for earlier years). Because I wanted a useable car, some areas of improvements remain (see below).
