The Little Ol'Lady NOT from Pasadena….This is the story of an extraordinary woman and an equally extraordinary automobile, her 1969 Corvette Stingray convertible. It was late summer of 1969 a young lady very active in competitive equestrian events just turning 21 decides to purchase an automobile. She began her search for something equally sporting and spirited as her own horses she raises and rides, something unique of exceptional performance, powerful as it is elegant, born and bred in America. She meets an older gentleman, the original owner. He is selling his near new car with a “special dealer installed performance option”. No sooner than the young 20-something new owner drives around a few weeks, the engine fails. Communication between buyer, seller, lawyers and the Chevrolet dealer resulted in an agreement. A new engine is installed by the Chevrolet dealer at no cost to all parties. However this time it was understood just how “special” this performance option was and how much attention is required and she begins her participation in competitions as evidenced by her many small plaques from various SCCA and other clubs events around the SF bay area. Some of the customizations she commissioned on her Corvette were; bolt-in roll bar, Gabriel shock absorbers, long tube steel headers and side exhaust pipes, competition high capacity oil pan, Mallory dual point ignition distributor and spark coil, race approved bell housing and smaller diameter steering wheel. Later she had real knock-off wire wheels and a AM/FM cassette installed. By the late 1980's the now more mature woman her competition driving interests waned, her special Corvette is was parked in the family garage, lifted up onto wooden blocks and covered in its custom car cover for the next 30+ years. Born a 435HP Tri-Power it has spent the majority of its life as an L88. Her Corvette had left the factory in Le Mans blue and blue trim (976 paint, 411 trim) with 427/ 435hp Tri-Power, 4speed manual transmission, power steering, radio and factory hard top in black vinyl finish. In 1969 soon after being delivered to the original owner the Chevrolet dealer installed a L88 engine and necessary hood. Finally, in the summer of 2019 her special Corvette sees the light of the sun again. After 30+ years the Corvette awakes back to life having spent only 45,500 miles. The steps taken to awaken the legendary vehicle and its beast of an engine:Changed spark plugs and oiling the cylinders. Changed motor oil and installing period correct vintage AC oil filter. Replaced fuel pump to original AC Delco updated non-logo version (keeping the original), Inspection of fuel tank and new fuel with racing additive, new OEM master brake cylinder. The original L88 Holley carburetor was rebuilt with original Holley gaskets and seals, new air filter and hood intake seal, new battery. It was decided to replace and conserve all four original brake calipers, delay their restoration and install new direct bolt-in Willwood alloy calipers and stainless flex hoses in the interest of safety. The Corvette comes with many boxes of NOS spares, original radio and transistor ignition, original 427 hood, original TriPower intake, carbs, linkage, and air filter, smog pump, brackets hoses and injection lines, cooling clutch fan, shrouds, spoiler, original spare tire, Protect-O-Plate with pamphlet, service records, club plaques original brake calipers and fuel pump, misc items.
