 1986 – Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3-16

Up for auction is a 1986 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3-16 valve. If you are not familiar with the 190-16 valve, please research the significance, accomplishments, and rarity of these cars before you bid. This may be one of the lowest mileage cars in the US. The 52,750 miles that show on the odometer, is the “actual mileage” of this car. I am the fourth owner of this car, and purchased this car in July of 2006 from a true enthusiast. Everything works on the car with the exception of the a/c. It will need a compressor to bring the system back to operation.

Items that have been repaired or replaced within the last 5k miles or less are listed below:

1.    Self-leveling suspension system completely removed and replaced with BILSTEIN shocks and H&R sport springs all the way around.

2.   New 16” wheels fitted with Dunlop 215/45/R16 tires (about 4k on wheels/tires).

3.   New Sachs clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing.

4.   Cylinder head was removed to replace leaking freeze plug at the rear of the head. At the same time, the following work was also done: Valve job, timing chain replaced, cylinder head pressure check (ok), all cylinder head freeze plugs renewed, new water pump and drive belt, coolant hoses, coolant reservoir and level sender, and new coolant transfer pump.

5.   The valves were adjusted with the cylinder head work (this alone is a big job, and is often neglected on these cars).

6.   The factory header has been Jet Hot Coated to run cooler and lower under hood temperatures.

7.   All new Bosch injectors.

8.   New idle control valve.

9.   New and correctly calibrated air flow potentiometer.

10. New throttle switch.

11.  New over voltage protection relay.

12. New voltage regulator.

13. New engine temperature sensor and fan switch.

14. New ABS speed sensors at both front wheels.

15. New hood pad.

16. Rebuilt climate control pushbutton assembly from “PROGRAMA”.

17. The dash was removed and the blend air flaps vacuum element and feedback potentiometer were both replaced with new (these two things will cause the climate control system to operate incorrectly when they fail).

18. New Bosch fuel pump, filter, and fuel accumulator.

This car starts, idles, runs and drives like a new car. It turns a lot of heads, and most people can't believe it is 35 years old. This car has never been in an accident, or had any paint/body work done. The exterior is all original as it came from the factory. It has a few parking lot dings and some stone chips and clouding in the clear coat on the hood, but nothing unusual for a car of this age. There is no rust anywhere on the car. The interior is nearly perfect. Never been smoked in, and there are no tears or damage to the seats or headliner. The dash is perfect. As I mentioned, everything on this car works (except for the a/c), IE: all windows, sunroof, seats, etc. It is equipped with a JVC CD player (I have the original BECKER radio). The widow tint is 20%. This car still has all of the original tools, owner's manual, dealer brochures, parts manuals, and the first aid kit in the rear deck. Also included is a custom fit (cover-craft) car cover, and an auto-art 1:18 scale die-cast replica of this car (new in box).

The car has had all the work that these cars never get, or will need again, when they have three times the miles that this car does.

The car has been in long term indoor storage since 2007, therefore I would recommend a complete fluid flush (IE: brakes, clutch, coolant, gas, oil) before running and driving.
