1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

Stingrays are commonly found in the shallow coastal waters of temperate seas. They spend the majority of their time inactive, partially buried in sand, often moving only with the sway of the tide. When they are inclined to move, most stingrays swim by undulating their bodies like a wave; others flap their sides like wings. The tail may also be used to maneuver in the water, but its primary purpose is protection. When swimming under duress, they can propel themselves incredibly fast and nimble through the water.

Here we see a 1967 Corvette with the "stinger hood". Sporting a low low 16,303 actual miles, an upgraded and consignor-stated 5 year old 383ci stroker V8, and a respray in Butternut Yellow it has the classic Sting Ray look. Nimble, very fast, and the look from 1967, Harley Earl's team was definitely at the top of their game, and this car is a shining example of it.

ExteriorButternut Yellow painstakingly applied shows beautifully and is definitely the deep end of the pool as to paint quality. A black painted accenting was applied over the hood and adds a nice contrast on the stinger style hood and scoop and stinger stripe is on this car. Wonderful to the ear and eyes, the factory side pipes are present, and add a nice contrast to the split front and rear chrome bumpers. A new black convertible top has been put on and works flawlessly. On all 4 corners are snappy 15-inch rally wheels wrapped by thin whitewall rubber.

InteriorRighteous and quite possibly original for this interior with showroom looking door panels covered in stunning black and spattered with perfect chrome, you are stepping into greatness. Slipping inside we are now in black heaven, with the dual cowl dash in front one side sporting the instrument cluster which is very clean and has a black surround. Under the passenger cowl is the glovebox which is aluminum faced and has a pristine black surround. A crack free padded dash top frames all this from above. Sitting in a perfect sea of black carpet, are the 2 bomber style leather buckets covered in black. There are only minor wear folds on these chairs. Running up the center is a console in black, housing the chromed ball topped shift lever wrapped in a rubber boot. A black V pillar rises vertically from this console and meets the cowls. This pillar has the vertical on its side radio which is the factory original AM/FM unit. Directly above the radio are some knobs and the clock. A s[ealer box is installed in the rear storage area and the carpeting back there shows some minor fading.

DrivetrainA flip of the hood and we gaze upon an orange blocked and headed engine with a consignor stated 383ci of displacement. An Edelbrock intake manifold and 4bbl carburetor sits atop to feed the necessary fossils and air to this mill. Chevrolet badged valve covers, and a chrome air cleaner assembly round out this stroker mill. A 4-speed Muncie M20 manual transmission is on back and sends power to an AN stamped 3.55 Positraction rear axle

UndercarriageA light peppering of slight surface rust is seen in various areas on the suspension, but all are unremarkable and structurally sound steel persists. Floor pans and rockers are all rust free and we see independent coil springs upfront, and an independent rear with a transverse leaf spring on back. Disc brakes are all around and of course the exhaust piping leading to the side pipes is all excellent with only minor surface rust.

Drive-AbilityNot only is this car a real looker it's a cooker too! It fired right up, and those side pipes are a melodious tune for any motor-head or Corvette aficionado. Off to the test track where it has grand acceleration, excellent bias free stopping, and smooth easy clutch shifting. All functions were working splendidly during our drive, and I couldn't get enough of the top-down auditory bliss from the side pipes.

Just a stunner with its design that in this writer's mind can only be eclipsed by the 63 Split Window, but this is a very close second. Just beautifully done and who cares if it's not numbers matching, it is a newer engine, good solid transmission and has plenty of reliability built into the drivetrain of this mid 1960 Mitchell masterpiece. Go ahead, make your day!
