This 1963 Mercury Monterey had it's origins in a 1961 Lincoln design proposal. When company chiefs realized how good this design was. they designated it for the '64 Ford and transferred the intended Ford design to the '63 Mercury. Part of the bargain was a concave grille. six round tail-lights (as in '61). The configuration for these new Breezeways copied the 1958-60 Lincoln Continentals in that it used a reverse-slant backlight with a wide power-retracting center section and bucket seats-and-console interior. The sporty S-55 -- decked out with a bucket-seats-and-console interior -- started the year with just one Breezeway. a two-door hardtop. but added a four-door companion later in the model year. Standard in the S-55 (and optional in others) was a four-barrel job good for 300 bhp. Fitted with mechanical lifters. this same The 1963 Mercury had it's origins in a 1961 Lincoln design proposal. When company engine cranked out 330 horses in an available "Police Special. " Additionally. there were two 406-cid engines at 385 and 405 bhp. Then at midyear came the 427. which eventually replaced the 406. With a single four-barrel carb. the 427 made 410 bhp. The dual-quad variant raised output to 425 horsepower and blitzed the quarter mile in 15. 1 seconds in Car Life's test. I purchased this car about 7 years ago with a little over 41. 00 miles.

This car has 47280 original miles. as the odometer shows and the original black paint (as the finish shows. ) It is a car that that has been always garage kept except when being driven. As shown. the upholstery is original and flawless. None of it has been restored or replaced. REMEMBER. this is NOT a restored car. It has never required automotive shop repair or sheet metal repair/replacement. No framework has ever been required. The old mechanical/spring wound dash clock works for a short time if tapped  (not guaranteed)! An electric conversion kit is redily available and easily installed. New fog lights and switch are mounted but not installed. I'll include the dash extras you see.

All the 5 power windows operate except for the right rear. which is stuck?. The trunk is “Popped open” by a button under the ignition switch. There are special modified Mercury hub caps all around and rear original fender skirts. Every light on the car works. The car has just had a complete tune-up. Exhaust system somewhat noisy (original). Gas gauge intermittent (unreliable). Original radio works fine. Windshield wipers don't “full sweep”. Just need exercise (running). There are no oil/water leaks. if so. very minor. I would not be afraid to drive this car on a lengthly trip as is. Very confortable for traveling.  Will need exhaust work in near future.

There are flaws from wear and mileage. mostly on the side chrome. Spare chrome and original air cleaner included. Needs paint. touchup here and there.

Car has been garage kept and only driven about 6000 miles in the last 7 years so small bugs should be expected but few problems of serious nature. nothing that can't be easily fixed. Several Service stickers remain on door jambs.

The 390 cu V8 engine is trouble free. powerful. nbsp;clean. quiet.

I won't waste more paper on this car as the beauty is shown by the many pictures.
