Description:

1946 Chevrolet 1/2-Ton Pickup Truck with Flawless paint work in correct original color scheme; Brewster Green, Mayland black with a flawless silver brown interior.

This Art Deco era pickup has been professionally restored from a brilliantly preserved, one family ownership auto, to its original glory. The truck went into barn storage early in its life, as the owners began a new company after WW2 and the rural farm developed into a summer home, fortunately preserving this truck for a future restoration to its original factory condition. Thus, sporting an exceptionally solid, straight body and a quality body-off restoration, maintaining original equipment throughout, this truck is a pristine example of the period.

The truck has been stored in a temperature controlled garage since the restoration.

The magnificent signature waterfall chrome grille and other chrome have received considerable attention, as well as the new paintwork inside and out with original factory colors. The main body is painted in Brewster Green with Mayland Black fenders and the accent stripe is in Surf Green. The bed is renewed with new stained oak floor slats and new chrome hold down attachments.

The Interior cabin is painted in correct Silver Brown and Brewster Green and has a like-new bench seat that is firm and solid, upholstered in brown vinyl. The dash is painted in Silver Brown and looks as it did off the showroom floor, glossy and well presented. All the gauges are clear and perfectly readable and in good working order, and there is a replacement black rubber floor mat.

This truck has wonderful summer-time cabin ventilation through the hood mounted air scoop and the very cool tilt opening two-piece glass windshield featuring electric dual wipers. The underside remains in great condition and is completely solid, as is the engine compartment.

Under the hood sits the pristine numbers-matching 216 cubic inch inline-six cylinder engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The engine, a 6 cylinder 216.5/90 HP engine, which has received regular service, including maintenance in September 2021 which included a transmission fluid change, gasket replacement, new spark plugs, rebuilt carburetor and the installation of a new radiator, new battery and starter.Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a rebuilt 4-speed manual transmission and a floor-mounted shift lever.

The Painted 15" steel wheels wear chrome trim rings and original chrome hubcaps as well as new radial tires.

This AK-Series pickup is offered with the manufacturer's owner manual and literature.

History of this truck:

The Chevrolet AK Series truck was a light duty truck sold under the Chevrolet brand, with production beginning in 1941 until 1947. It used the GM A platform, shared with the Chevrolet Deluxe. The AK series was also branded and sold at GMC locations, with the primary visual difference being the Chevrolet had vertical bars in the grille, while the GMC had horizontal bars. Introduced in 1941, the new Chevrolet trucks entire front end: hood, louvers, fenders, bumpers, headlights, parking lights and grille were all new. When combined with a 1 1/2 inch increase in wheelbase, the result was a larger, more impressive truck. The new half-ton was built on a 115 inch wheelbase. Chevrolet ceased building civilian models in 1942 due to war and returned in 1946 complete with a full line of trucks sporting chrome trim. These trucks stayed in production until about May 1, 1947 when the Advanced Design trucks entered production.

SUMMATION:

This 1946 pickup is truly a wonderful slice of American Heritage. Rest your foot on the running board and hop into the cozy yet utilitarian cabin. A wonderful view down the hood greets you. Turn the key, step on the floor mounted ignition and the smooth pulling six-cylinder simmers to life with ease and settles into a subdued growl. Grab hold of the 4-speed floor shift knob, put it into gear and a nostalgic ride of a lifetime awaits .
