Here is a recently imported South African 4 door Mk 2 Escort so benefits from being Right-Hand Drive. The body is generally well preserved leaving the buyer to concentrate more on the mechanical aspects of improving the car. The 4 door Mk2 has it's own special niche in todays Classic Ford Ownership because you can take advantage of the many panels & fittings that have been re-manufactured for the 2 door Mk2.Generally this car has a good front end as can be seen in the photos. Inner & Outer Wings, chassis rails and importantly, a good unmodified bulkhead & bubble. Scuttle is good. Car also has an excellent bonnet. The underside of the car is generally sound as seen in the photos although the passengerside footwell needs a repair (perhaps the purpose made panel that is available over here) and to a lesser extent, the driver's footwell too. Otherwise underneath the car is good in terms of sills, floor & chassis rails and this extends right to the rear spring hangers of the vehicle. Doors are all ok including door jambs.Inside the boot you can see that the tubs & boot floor are very sound but the lower extremes of the rear wings have rusted (very common) & have been crudely repaired. Also note the UK spec fuel tank. The boot frame is rust free as is the boot lid itself & the back panel. The bases of the sloping back roof (C Posts, a usual area for corrosion) are generally rot free. The roof top has a number of small dings that have undoubtedly accumulated over the vehicles 40+ year life. Doors are all generally good. The interior of the car offers threadbare seating both front & rear crying out for re-covering or replacement. Other than that, the dash, door cards, even headlining are not too bad. There are some boy racer type switches fitted to the right of the steering column. I've no idea what they do. Also the original pedal rubbers have been replaced by those garish chrome metal types.Glass on the car is all good including windscreen. Mechanically the car is understood to have a 1600 crossflow Kent engine mated to a 4 speed gearbox. I have not tried to start it but would expect a short period tinkering would bring it to life. Some new ancillaries on the engine too incl alternator.Car will come with South African Log Book & Nova Letter, essential for UK DVLA Registration. Conclusion: An Old Skool Ford which could soon be pretty viable in it's own right but furthermore would be a great canvass for more radical mechanical improvement such as the Zetec route (Complete Zetec donor car available) Not an Auction but a Classified Ad so the chance to come, see & purchase in one go on a first come, first served basis.
