1988 XR2 – 36,500 miles HIGHLY Original

Dry stored for 19 years before being extensively recommissioned. Original and not messed with (even in at the time in the 1980's / early 90's!).

Mileage backed up by every backed up by every MoT it has had from new,  as well as also having full service history with stamped service book. Its also got loads of other paperwork/receipts including the original bill of sale.

Its never been stolen or written off (HPI clear)

Following its hibernation, it had the following recommissioning work done:

New cambelt, plugs. FiltersHT leads, rotor arm and capDiscs and pads at the frontRear drums rebuilt4 new wheel bearingsComplete polybush kitNew dampers all roundNew clutchNew starter motorNew fuel pumpNew standard exhaust4 new tyresNOS headlightsCylinder head removed and valves recut and new stem seals fitted

The interior is in fantastic original condition – it still has the original Ford radio and period Ford graphic equalizer (remember them?!) ready to play all those mix-tapes. The only deviation from standard is that its had some period white faced clocks fitted at some point in the past, but the original black clocks come with the car.

Parcel shelf is uncut and boot contains spare pepperpot alloy (original factory Dunlop is quite perished), with Ford jack and brace.

The XR2 was resprayed after recommissioning, but its not good enough, it needs a good blow over/spraying again in my opinion. Its more than acceptable, but to make this a £20K car it needs it.

The car has done less than 50 miles since the last MoT in July last year when it was put into storage again because of Covid cancelling all the classic car shows. The MoT has obviously now expired, but I am not expecting any issues with it passing in view of it doing virtually no mileage since the last one. It sailed through last time - feel free to check online.

So, there you have it – a proper unicorn / rare as rocking horse poop XR2 that has all the amazing history to back everything up. If you know XR2s and fast Fords in general, you will know and understand how special and rare this car is! The value is only going to sky-rocket and I wish I could keep it as an investment, but I really need the space for some of my other car collection.

I have been messed around by so many people on the various Ford online forums, so am not interested in smart comments, wise-boy cracks and timewasters in general. I am also not willing to do any viewings without proof of identity and address first. Sorry, but this is really important as I know a fellow car collector who had one of their cars for sale, which someone viewed and it suddenly disappeared the following night! If you are serious, you will not have a problem with this and will understand my caution.

Finding this car took me over 18 months and I am loathed to sell it. I am not interested in any silly offers and do not want to part-exchanges.

Happy to answer any questions to my best ability.

NOTE: Due to being messed around previously, I will want a £250 deposit immediately after the auction ends please. The car is 100% as described so there should be no issues if you are unable to view. Collection (and full payment) needs to be within a week of the auction finishing.

Thank you.
