1969 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe
During the design and initial construction of the Camaro, the car had the name "Panther". The 1965 concept bore the Panther emblem, and it retained the name until just a few weeks before the car debuted. However, Chevy always intended to give its Mustang competitor a "C" name to conform to its Corvette, Chevelle, and Corvair models. When asked what does the name Camaro mean, one of the GM brass replied, it's a car that eats Mustangs!
For consignment, a rotisserie restoration that was done over a long time in our consignor's garage. Don't be fooled though it is very professionally done, and now this car is a screamer resto-mod. One of the finest years in this writer's opinion, and a definite fine job done on all aspects of this beautifully done job. I'm putting the napkin around my neck, ready to feast on a Mustang!
ExteriorPainstaking hours of putting new sheet metal on the outside save for the right outer rocker and trunk lid, then sanding prepping and making sure gaps are near perfect, then all inner structures sandblasted and primed where needed. The immaculate coating of Sherwin Williams Ultra 7000 Viper Red, code 45963, and some striping painted in SW Dimension paint code 5B-39393, a satin back. Extra body mods include a custom lower front valance, a smoothed firewall, and the rear body panel has molded in backup lamp and exhaust cutouts. A small spoiler is also attached to the trunk lid and continues the satin stripe. All straight steel with well minded gaps throughout. Forgeline GZ3 18x8 with 4.87 BS graphite wheels in front, and Forgeline GZ3 18 x 11.6 with 6-inch BS graphite all wrapped in low profile BFG 18 inch rival rubber.
InteriorAll custom by Vinny's interiors in New Britain, PA. Doors have a gray insert tuck and roll vertical panel, surrounded by black vinyl and a Viper Red thin trimming just on the edge of the black and gray tuck and roll. Inside black and gray buckets from a 2002 Firebird are now in and looking snappy with their red edge piping. A 2 plus 2 rear bench is in and also has the same tuck and roll and red edge piping. There's a full coverage dash pad, and a custom console racing through the buckets in the center featuring billet cup holders and some LED number readouts for the tranny gear. Detroit speed provides the dash panel with Autometer gauges. A Momo steering wheel fronts this dash and sits atop a Flaming River steering column. Vintage Air is now installed, and tinted glass keeps the sun at a minimum. The seats have Morris Classic Concept 3-point seat belts and floating above the pristine black carpeting lit with cool LED interior under dash lighting, are Modo Innovations pedal coverings.
DrivetrainThe engine is a 2007 LY6 6.0 liter bored .030 over with forged Ccat H bream connecting rods and SRP pistons. A Texas Speed 228 cam with LS7 lifters is in and all ARP fasteners have been utilized. The mill was built by Stauffers Automotive Machine, has Holley engine mounts and Hooker Blackheart stainless headers. Also, Holley valve coverings and an LS3 intake and throttle body. Not your typical Camaro HUH?? On the back is a 4L60E 4-speed automatic with a FTI 3200 RPM stall converter. Finalizing the drivetrain is a Ford 9-inch 3.70 posi rear axle. All presenting beautifully and dyno proven at 370.2 horses.
UndercarriageNearly as beautiful as the topside, and with independent coil springs for the front with SPC front lower control arms and Global West upper front control arms. A 4 link with coil over rear suspension features Detroit Speed Quadralink. C5 front disc brakes and Wilwood rear disc brakes are now bringing this machine to a halt.
Drive-AbilityAll I can say it's an E ticket ride (Disney does not rate their rides like this anymore but compare it to the rockin roller coaster, or space mountain, or the dreaded Yeti if you get my drift, and this car will do that too, but I did not! Our only frown was that the right rear power window was inoperable.
With a binder of paperwork, and dyno results, as well as a nifty photo book documenting the process, this car is a must see in person, and I'd venture to say one of the nicest 69 Camaros gracing our hallowed halls, and there are many to choose from and compare to. Come on down! Mustang lunch anyone??!
