For Sale is my 1964 Chevelle SS/Malibu

I am a private party and will attempt to tell you all I know about my Chevelle, both good and bad. This is not a show car, nor is it an 8 second quarter mile car.  This is a car you can throw the kids in and go get ice cream, roll the window down and cruise straight down the road and get thumbs ups from everyone you see. There are enough things to fix and work on without doing the heavy lifting (engine, transmission, body, etc.).

Here are the main details:

Brand new rebuilt 327 from 5 Star Engines in Phoenix, less than 100 miles on engine

RV cam (not radical, but fun)

Headers

Brand new radiator

Dual electric fans

MGI Speedware relays

Holley Sniper EFI

Holley Distributor

Holley Coil

Holey Electronics box

Holley in tank fuel pump

New 3300 RPM Stall converter

Electric water pump

Dakota gauges

New battery

New heavy-duty alternator (200 amp)

AM/FM/Bluetooth radio

Front disc brakes

Here is the story:

I bought this car about 5 years ago.  I was told it was once sitting in a field in Georgia before it started its second life. When I got the car, the body work had just been completed, but nothing was done with the fairly stock 283.

I went big and built a 383 Stroker that was pushing over500hp.  While that sounds cool, it was not.  That much horsepower with a radical cam meant that my wife didn't like driving it. Not only because of the beast of the engine, but heat and tuning issues.  While it was fun to “get on it” it was not worth the reliability and pure no stress driving we were used to.  I pulled the Stroker and replaced it with a built engine from 5 Star Engines.

Here is the link of exactly what is in her:

When I was a kid, there was a guy who came into town on Saturday nights in a 1970 Plymouth station wagon.  He got kids to race him in his family wagon that had a 440 that would blow the doors off of anything, it was a real sleeper.

That is the look I was going for (no I didn't go out and race kids).  I wanted a Sleeper car that you may have found cruising Main Street in 1979.  I wanted a non-assuming car that wasn't radical until you popped the hood.  I know that a small block not pained orange offends purist, but I love the black-on-black look.

I live at altitude and had a heck of a time with the Holley Double Pumper, so after researching Electronic Fuel Injection, I went with the Holley Sniper.  Not only did I go with the throttle body, I went with the in tank fuel pump, ignition box, coil and distributor.

This system is simply AMAZING.  Because I was waiting on the engine (5months) I had time to prepare the wiring for the Sniper and followed the instructions to the letter!  The Sniper has a lot of wire connections, and I did my best to run them for efficiency and style.  Anything that need an electronic input, I routed it through an MGI Speedware relay.

When I pulled the Chevelle out to take the pictures, it hadn't been started in 2 months.  I turned the key, the fuel pump kicked on as the computer screen booted (3 seconds).  I turned the key and it purred like a kitten.  I mounted the screen under the dash (see pictures) and from there you can adjust the idle, change the timing, air fuel mixture or a dozen of other setting or you can just let in learn how you drive.  The Sniper was pricy, but I highly recommend it to anyone.  Installation is not hard, just take the instructions step by step.

I also replaced the original gauge panel (that will come with the car) with Dakota gauges.  This is another product I cannot say enough about. The gauges fit perfectly, and the cluster runs to a control box (in the glove box) by a Cat 5 computer cable. All the included sending units wire to that box.  Needless to say, all of the gauges work great.

As I said, this is a fun car for someone who likes to tinker in their garage without having to do major engine or body work.  There are enough small to moderate things for you to work on.  Unlike others, I want you to know exactly what you are getting into. My focus has been on the engine, and these were on my list to do.

Wipers do not work: They just need to be wired to the switch.  The motor is new as is the controlling arm(not installed but included.

Passenger window doesn't roll smoothly:  It has a brand-new lifting mechanism that I had a window place install.  I do not think it was installed correctly but have not been in there to see.  I should have just done it myself.

No heater motor switch: The heater motor works, just wired with a toggle switch.  Could not find a factory switch.  Heater hoses attached to heater core with no leaks.

Trunk:  The trunk is Fiberglas.  I have no idea why; it was like it when I got it.  I have the lock mechanism.

Horn doesn't work, needs to be wired.

Radio works, but to a single stock speaker.  Wires in the back for a portable set of speakers (included).

If I think of anything else, I will add it.

I am selling this as I really want a 55-57 Sedan Delivery to restore.  My wife has been kind enough to let me have 2 hot rods (I have a 62 Chevy II) and I don't really need 3.  This is a fun car and a real head turner.  It has got a great rumble and starts with a turn of the key.  It drives straight down the road and the power steering and power brakes are a nice touch.

Please ask any questions, I will be happy to send pictures and video.  If you are local, come take her for a spin.  I have a very reasonable Reserve compared to the other Chevelle's out there.

Also included:

Holley double pumper 760 Black (of course)

Original radiator

Original gauges

Misc. parts

Steering wheel Sniper display mount (blocked the gauges and I didn't like it)

Portable speakers

Car cover

Binder with instructions

Anything that goes with it I will throw in the trunk.
