1958 Jaguar MK9 MKIX Restoration Project. Chassis Number 20.

Very early production  Jaguar MK9 right hand drive chassis number 20 believed to be the second oldest Jaguar MK9 in existence, the only older car is in the Jaguar museum Coventry.

This car is matching numbers as it left the Jaguar factory in 1958 with a recorded mileage of some 35,884. Having cleaned the vehicle after being in storage for over 45 years revealed leather seats in remarkable condition which suggests that the car had not covered a massive mileage before being laid up. The engine is also quite clean and does not have an excessive amount of oil build up which again suggests that the recorded mileage is correct and even after 45 plus years of inactivity the engine still turns. We also have an old mot certificate which dates back from 1974 to back up the current millage shown on the speedo as being correct and original. We describe the car as being complete as all major components are intact however both door tool kits are missing all tools. 

The car was taken off the road in 1974 by the then third owner and sometime after restoration work was started to the body, we do not know why but this work stopped and in 1976 the fourth owner purchased the car in the condition shown in the photographs with the intention to restore the car when he retired, unfortunately the restoration did not happen and the vehicle has lain undisturbed in dry storage until now.  

THIS CAR IS NOT A ROT BOX. The chassis does have some surface rusting but we have not found any heavy corrosion or holes in the metal. The inner and outer sills will need replacing but the floors appear to be solid. Both front wings will need removing and repairs completed as required. Rear valance below the bumper needs repair as do the rear wheel arches and the D posts. All four doors need repairs to the lower 4 inches of the door shin and both front doors need repairs to the bottom of the door frames. The boot lid appears to be solid as does the bonnet however there is some rusting around the return edges of the bonnet. The steel sliding sunroof still operates as does the fresh air vent in the scuttle. All aspects of the car will require some restoration and or preservation but at the end of the day you will have a very unique and beautiful Jaguar MK1X.
