1962 Tornado Talisman 'unfinished project'

Tornado were based in Rickmansworth and between 1958 and 1963 built a range of cars including the Typhoon. Tempest. Thunderbolt and the Talisman.
The Talisman was the first production four-seater car to feature an engine built by Keith Duckworth of “Cosworth” fame and when introduced to the press met with high acclaim. There are many period magazine articles featuring the model of car and more recently the model has started to feature in contemporary magazine articles including the November 2012 issue of ‘Classic Monthly' where the cover page and its inside story ran a rerun of the road test between the Talisman and the Lotus Elan at the conclusion of which. the writers gave a higher score to the Talisman.
The Talisman performed well on the period race track including winning the team award in the 1963 750 Motor Club's Six-Hour Relay Race and an example also competed on the 1962 and 1963 RAC Rally.
FIA Homologation papers were obtained in 1962 within the GT category. (Number 69)

This car dates from August 1962 and would have been originally fitted with a 1340cc Cosworth tuned engine. There is no engine or gearbox included in this sale. I do have a few full race engines if you're serious. please enquire.

The chassis has been shot blasted. and painted. It has seen a few minor repairs over the years. nbsp; but it is solid and sound throughout. it has some 3mm reinforcement plates welded on for a 6 point roll cage to be mounted. a 6 point FiA roll cage is included in the sale. removed from a different car. it will need a mild tweek and a little modification to fit well.

All of the suspension and running gear is new and/or fully reconditioned. brand new GAZ coilovers. recon rack & new solid mounts. new trunions. new ball joints. seals. bearings. nbsp;and fasteners Vitesse uprights. new hub bearings and discs on the front. geometry fully checked and set by MIke YOules. it just needs shimmeing fabricating and fitting.

rear drive shafts have been fully rebuilt. a brand new Quaife ATB is installed on a perfect 4. 1 CWP properly set up by Dave Longhurst with all new bearings and the later larger output shafts.

rear uprights are blasted and painted. new gaz coilovers again. the trailing and lower arms are the originals and usable. I was planning on remaking them to optimise the geometry. if required. but that hasn't been checked as of now.

body shell is original. believed to be the RAC car from 1962. originally navy blue. but that's what I've been told ( you can see the lucas lamp patch on the roof) the doors and boot are original to the car. the bonnet is brand new. THe tunnel and bulkhead had been cut but all parts are present and original. except the dashboard. which is new.

windows and frames. petrol tank header tank and rad top frame mounting are all present. no interior trim or seats. they didn't have much anyway!

Re advertised due to previous purchaser having difficulties in completing the deal. Primarily for sale as I have 2 TT's and 3 Cortina's. with only 3 garages . . .

an Highly under rated pre 63 GT car which even in preliminary testing has lapped Brands in 61s ( 603 kg. 125 BHP ) which makes it affordably competitive and that little bit different. which also adds to its appeal to certain race organisers.

for a viewing or serious enquiries please call Joe on 07724 000320  car is in Sussex. BN43. delivery is possible.
