1965 Mustang Fastback – Shelby Recreation: https://youtu.be/x429xqVr4IkThis Mustang has an interesting history. Purchased in October 2020 in ‘garage find' condition. The car was originally built in the mid-90's using true high performance Ford factory parts. The engine is a 289 dated April 23, 1965. Prior owner says it was originally a K code engine, but was rebuilt using 351 heads, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and vintage Holley 600 carb - rebuilt by customrebuiltcarbs.com in NJ. It includes Shelby style Tri-Y headers and side exhaust from Tony Branda to complete the look and sound. It has a hydraulic cam for low maintenance power. The transmission is a 1969 Toploader 4 speed tagged ‘RUG E3', which is a wide ratio unit. It was taken from a Boss 302 Mustang. The shifter is a Hurst Competition Plus. A new flywheel and clutch were installed during the recent restoration. The rear is also from the same Boss 302 – it is a limited slip 9” with 3.25 gears. The tag reads WFB-A, 3L25 9. The cooling system has been upgraded with an aluminum radiator and fan shroud for consistent 180 degree operating temps. New parts under the hood include water pump, alternator, fuel pump, belts, hoses, starter, etc. A Pertronix ignition with a 12 volt relay is all new. The gas tank was replaced. Interior: The interior is basically all new. Eastwood X-mat was used under new carpet and refinished seats using the 1966 pattern, just preference. The dash pad, kick panels, door cards and headliner are all fresh. Fold down rear seat is fully functional. All factory gauges work and a custom ‘rally pac' was added to the steering column. All added gauges are Autometer and include a tach, volts, temperature and oil pressure. Temp and oil are mechanical gauges. A radio-delete panel along with the race inspired seat belts completes the 'all business' look inside. The final touch was a wood Cobra steering wheel. The refurbish included a new heater core and defroster plenum/vents, so it can be driven in cooler weather. Body: The body was stripped to bare metal and treated to a full resto. The passenger side ¼ panel was replaced, along with the driver's door – otherwise the body panels are original. The rockers are pristine, with date codes still visible. The floors had some repairs back in the 90's that have held up well. The bottom of the car was treated to undercoating and sealer as needed. The Wimbledon White and stripes were painted in base/clear using original diagrams to match the Shelby look. The paint has been wet-sanded and polished to show level. New bumpers and taillights are included as well. The wheels are excellent reproductions from the 90's, with high quality chrome and polish. Scott Drake Koni-style shocks have been installed all around, along with a 1” from sway bar. Front brakes have been converted to discs, including a GM style aftermarket dual bowl master cylinder. Engine bay includes original style export brace and monte carlo bar. This tribute is about as close as you can get to the feel and sound of a true Shelby. No expenses were spared during the restoration, and it is turn key as it sits. Please enjoy the Youtube video to appreciate the sounds this car makes: https://youtu.be/x429xqVr4IkI'll forward additional pics as requested - please feel free to ask as many questions as needed. I prefer the buyer have the car transported from my location. Buyers local to NJ are welcome to take a look in person. The car is fresh and dialed in - expensive to duplicate at this level using serious Ford vintage performance parts. This is not a mild-mannered 289 fastback with stripes - it's mechanically as close to a Shelby as you can get. Clear NJ title and registration. Insured through Hagerty. Bidders with low feedback numbers please contact me before bidding. Dealers are welcome to bid - not interested in consignment deals. Since the car is 56 years old - there of course are no warranties or guarantees. Bid to win - not just to take a look. I've been buying and selling on eBay for nearly 20 years, so bid with confidence - Good luck! Check back on the auction as I'll add more details as needed as questions come in.
