1967 MERCEDES 250 SL CALIFORNIA PAGODA, VERY RARE, UK SUPPLIED

A very rare UK supplied Mercedes Benz 250 SL California Pagoda. Supplied in very limited numbers the California was supplied new with a rear seat unlike the SL. The shape is exactly the same but the main difference is the California has a removable hard topand where the soft top would fold down in an SL. there is a rear seat which is fantastic for small adults/ kids. UK supplied right hand drive car with original hand book. original data card. a stack full of bills and receipts for parts and service work. 30 old mot certificatesincluding its current one which is valid until April 30th 2014. it has covered about 400 miles since its last motand the only advisory was the centre exhaust section has a minor leak of exhaust gasses.
Just 2 private owners in 46 and a half years. the first owner bought the car on the 21st August 1967 and kept it until the 24th July 1978. so its last owner had it for an amazing 35 years. I picked the car up on the day of listing it for sale (02/12/2013) and I have driven it for just under 200 miles. the temperature gauge stayed dead in the middle and the oil pressure is reading 30psi on tick over and 45psi when driving which is superb. The gearbox is a 4spd auto which is very smooth indeed. the power steering is light and responsive. everything seems to be working including thee clock and the low fuel warning light. it is always a sign of a well loved classic when everything is working. The SL was originally supplied in a rather hideous shade of orange but according to HPI it shows as having a colour change in 1995 to what I would describe as Primrose which is a lovely 60s colour often seen on Jaguar E Types or very early MGBs/Cs. Apart from the colour change this is an original car not a recently restored car which you are unable to see what state that it was really in !!Its not concours or show standard but then if it was they are being advertised at 60-70K. this is a very usable Pagoda which looks incredibly good for its age. there are a few light blisters on the car. the seats are very good. the carpets are fair with a little fraying on the edges. the chromework is very good too. Its not a "show winner" under the bonnet.  What this is is a very very usable SL which im sure you could get in and drive to the South of France without breaking down and a car that should you wish to invest a little money in would make an absolute stunner !  with prices rising rapidly it will not be long before these are totally ridiculous money. I have seen a few sell this year in auction for 60k 65k and 75k.
