The Mercedes W114 was the first all-new passenger car chassis for Mercedes-Benz in the post war period at its launch in 1968. Fans called it the “Stroke 8” (or “Strich Acht” in German) and this car resulted in the continuation of the mid-size Mercedes models - now called the E class, these cars are considered as the benchmark for durability and reliability. Designed by the French auto designer, Paul Bracq, these beautiful cars feature a squared off pillarless roof, similar to Bracq's designs of the W111 coupes. The W111 is now a very sought after car and makes the W114 an attractive option that will, in no doubt, continue rising in value. The W114 offered attractive features, such as a collapsible steering column, seatback locks, sun roof as well as new suspension that greatly improved their performance over the previous fintail cars. All these improvements in safety, handling, and reliability make this a much better car to drive than older Mercedes models and for a much more obtainable sum. This 1972 250C W114 Coupe was manufactured in 1972 in Germany and then first registered in 1972 in the USA. This low mileage example was originally sold in Florida and then it was sold onto a property investor who dry stored the car in New Hampshire. The vehicle was then more recently exported to the United Kingdom in early 2021.The car is very dry and still drives beautifully benefitting from the original 2. 8 litre M130 Inline-Six engine with a 4-speed automatic gearbox, featuring twin Zenith carburetors and was factory-rated to 150 horsepower. The car has received a full carburettor rebuild and new fuel pump along with new oil, spark plugs, HT leads, air filter, oil filter, new ballast resistors and a new windscreen rubber seal. The electronic choke was reportedly replaced by the previous owner in September 2020.It has also had new brake disks, pads and callipers all round. I had the roof painted black as a contrast to the original Silver Grey Metallic (180) paint which is in good condition. Although the odometer and fuel gauge are inoperable, it is rare to find an example like this showing such low mileage of 11, 364 miles. The USA history shows change of ownership. The car also comes with UK first registration documents. There are also a whole host of recent bills both from current and previous ownership. The upholstery of the car is red MB-Tex with original colour matched door cards and carpets. It also benefits from the original and working Becker Europa radio, driving lamps, sunroof and 14 inch Bundt wheels. The car is dry stored in South West London.
