This numbers matching big block 454 example is a very original and rare ‘Vette (one of only. 6,648 convertibles made in 1970 and very few in this color and options) that spent some time in Medford, New York. This Corvette is loaded with options such as 454 LS5, 4-speed, factory air-conditioning, power steering, tilt and telescoping steering column, tinted glass, factory theft alarm, fiber-optic warning light monitoring and headlight washers. This Corvette was assembled in GM's factory in north St. Louis, Missouri on or about July 2, 1970 (VIN code S) as were all Corvettes from 1954 until mid-1981. Finished in Bridgehampton Blue (code 979), a Corvette-only color that year, the car's paint and trim are in overall very good order. The contrasting white power-folding soft-top looks great. The car's chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body and the engine bay is very tidy. This two-seater rolls on Goodyear Polyglas white letter radials, size F70-15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted to a factory turbine-style rally wheel. The wheels and tires are all in very good condition. Under the forward-hinged hood is a numbers matching 454 Turbo-Fire “Rat” V-8 engine (code# CZU RPO LS5, 70S414128). This motor is backed by a numbers matching Muncie four-speed, wide-ratio manual transmission (code M20 #P0H15A, 70S414128). Driver convenience features include factory air-conditioning (code C60), power steering (code N40), tilt and telescoping steering column (code N37) plus tinted glass, a factory theft alarm, fiber-optic warning lamp monitoring and headlight washers. Open the driver's door to see the blue vinyl interior (code 411). The bucket seats look great, as does the matching carpet. The typical, three-spoke Corvette steering wheel is present while the dash, with its large circular speedometer and tachometer is in good, original order, as are the inner door panels but the odometer and the wipers are inoperable. A console-mounted shifter and a factory AM/FM radio complete the interior. For 1970, the fender flares were designed into the body contours to reduce wheel-thrown debris damage. New were eggcrate grills with matching front fender side vents and larger squared front directional lamps. The previously round dual exhaust outlets were made larger and rectangular in shape. Interiors were tweaked with redesigned seats and a new deluxe interior option combined wood-grain wood accents and higher-spec carpeting with leather seat surfaces. Positraction rear axle, tinted glass and a wide-ratio four-speed manual transmission were now standard. The LS5 was a 454 CID motor generating 390 horsepower and accounted for a quarter of the cars sold. Convertible competition to this Corvette in 1970 included Ferrari's 365 Daytona, Jaguar's E-Type and Maserati's Ghibli Spider. If you enjoy pre-emissions era 454 Corvettes, this is one you shouldn't pass up.
