1987 MERCEDES-BENZ 230te ESTATE W123 S123

The car drives very well, idles correctly, and shifts smoothly through all gears. One of the last W123 estates ever produced in a rare surf blue. Recently extensively overhauled and it is ready to be enjoyed.

I purchased this car in the middle of 2020 as a project after it had been left undriven for 8 years. I was under the impression it would be ULEZ exempt but recently found out it is not. I therefore no longer need the car. A lot of work has gone into this car to bring it to the point it is today and can be carried on as a rolling work in progress. It is almost 35 years old, and it is not fully restored - there is still a lot of things that need sorting, but these can be done as and when. The major things have all already been done, as listed below.

The good bits & work carried out:

- All structural and underside welding done – both inner wings, floor pans, inner arches, and rear valances, etc. Underneath the car is completely solid. 

- Fully undersealed 

- New radiator

- New thermostat & New coolant temperature sensor

- 2 new rear driveshafts (High quality SKF ones)

- New propshaft coupler

- Fully serviced, including spark plugs, engine oil & filter, gearbox oil & filter, differential fluid, brake fluid & power steering fluid.

- New differential seals

- New fuel lines

-  All brake callipers refurbished and new brake lines

- New upgraded gearbox vacuum modulator

- 2 new front tie rods, centre drag link, steering damper and drop links

- 2 new lower ball joints

- Wheels resprayed

- Previous owner removed the SLS suspension for added reliability. Replaced with HD Bilstein shock absorbers & springs.

- New bosch headlight units

- New wiper blades & replacement arms

- New rear section exhaust

- Tow bar fitted

- Cloth interior is in great shape with no tears, could benefit from a shampoo though.

-  Headliner is in great condition – rare in an estate.

- 6 Months remaining MOT

I am probably forgetting a few bits

Bad bits and bits that need sorting:

- Missing radio

-  Patches of cosmetic rust throughout the body work, along with small dents and scratches. No structural rust as mentioned before this has all been sorted. The car will probably want a respray at some point to sort all this but for now it is fine and adds character to the car. A good mop and polish should bring out years of life left in the paintwork.

- Bonnet and boot hatch are rusty but I have good replacement panels for these, along with a replacement drivers' door. The panels will be included.

- Front seat bases have collapsed – common in W123s and there are ways to fix this.

- Rear hatch needs new dampers - inexpensive fix

If you get can past the aged body work, you will see this car has great potential. I have spent more getting it to this stage than I am asking for. The body panels included alone are worth over £1000.
