Relisted due to timewasters. I twice agreed a price on this car, but both times the buyers failed to follow through with the sale (without seeing the car) . Please do not make an offer unless you are serious about buying - thank you.

I am continuing to clear out some of my classic and retro vehicles and so offer for sale here this rare gem of an old luxury classicJaguar, a Jan 1982, Series 3 XJ12 HE, 5343cc V12, auto, saloon. MOT until 22 March 2022 and showing a very low mileage of 77,666. These 5.3 V12 'big cats' are now rapidly increasing in price, particularly in this condition, so this will be a rock solid investment.

I took this as part of a deal with another vehicle earlier this year (a Peugeot 505 now sold), this really is luxury classic motoring at its finest!

Being a 1982 car, this will benefit from becoming tax and MOT exempt in the next year or two. That means when it qualifies: just pay for your £100 a year classic insurance policy and away you go for dirt cheap classic luxury motoring.

I believe this to be a special order vehicle as it is has lovely red paintwork (unusual for a Series 3?), a velour interior which is in fantastic condition btw (leather was standard and tends to wears badly, velour was the option as also offered by Mercedes of the period?). It also has a working steel electric sunroof.

Structurally, underneath and bodywork wise, this car is just short of immaculate. It looks like it has been stored indoors all its life!

However, please note that the car has been on and off the road for several years, so WILL require re-commissioning properly before use.

Here's what I know that will need some further investigation:

It starts and drives very well, but on cold start up there is a ticking noise, believed to be one of the manifolds. This quietens down when warm, but would obviously benefit from being looked at further. The front calipers are both sticking (again!). They did free off after driving it for a while after purchase, but they are now sticking again now due to another long period of inactivity. I reckon they'll free up again with little effort. There is a fuel pipe leaking and the fuel guage doesn't seem to work – I recently put £50 worth of petrol in there so I know it isn't empty!!!!).The battery has gone flat in storage, the car starts first time with a jump pack/start.

That is everything that I can think of at the moment, but as the car is still laid up in storage there might be some other very minor issues that I've forgotten about - but definitely nothing major. Overall, this is absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, just routine old Jag stuff. However, please feel free to ask any questions if you want any more information and I will answer to the best of my ability.

For the reasons stated above, the car WILL have to be transported to its new owner and should NOT be driven on the road until it has been properly re-commissioned.

Having said all that, the most important things on these old Jags is rust, rust, and more rust, and the underneath and bodywork on this example are outstanding for a car of this age (imho). It has two bits of very, very minor surface bubbling near the window, one on the o/s headlight bowl and one inexplicable random hole on the nsr bumper corner piece? Absolutely nothing major to worry about. Please look at the pics of underneath to see how good this car is structurally. Any and all mechanical work and re-commissioning can be sorted much easier than rust, for a car of this age I would say it's excellent body and underneath (imho).

So, please check out the pics and see if it's what you're after. Then, when you're happy, make me an offer and you never know?

I would not be selling this if it wasn't for space issues as it is MOT and tax exempt relatively soon and I would love to cruise about in it myself. I am sure it will make someone very happy when properly re-commissioned.

If you want to view or have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Please note that a £250 deposit is required immediately when a sale has been agreed, with the balance paid and the car collected within a further 7 days. It WILL have to be lifted and transported away, so please check out transportation costs before making an offer. I know someone who may be able to assist with delivery depending on distance/timescales – please ask for a quote.

Best regards,

Kevin
