motodrome are pleased to offer this beautiful 1965 Jaguar S-type 3. 8 manual with overdrive.

 

This one is a real rarity in that. whilst it underwent a comprehensive yet sympathetic restoration in 2003-04. it was never a rusted-out derelict wreck. hence retains it's original red leather trim etc.

It's owner since 1967 put it into dry storage in 1976 when he emigrated to Australia. from whence it emerged 25 years later. with minimal rusting etc. Nevertheless. it was completely stripped and the rusted areas cut out and professionally replaced. and the mechanics refurbished as required (including full-documented rebuild of the original engine) before being treated to a full bare-metal repaint in the original colour. We have over 60 photos of the car before and during it's restoration.

 

It's provenance and history are impeccable. and we believe the odometer reading of just 71000 miles is correct. We have everything from the original green logbook. the original service book with all entries up to 1975. the Jaguar ‘Owners Service Policy' document. period promotional material. storage receipts. old MOT's. and a big sheaf of invoices since it was exhumed and restored.

 

it's fitted with the later all-synchro gearbox. M & C Wilkinson electric rack and pinion power steering conversion. electronic ignition. alternator. kenlowe fan. stainless exhaust. AED bypass switch. rear seat belts. and period-style radio with iPod cable  

 

On a fast test on arrival  it performed absolutely superbly. It's clear that a great deal of attention has been lavished on her to ensure she's ‘just right'. It retains it's original toolkit.  

Comes with MOT to June 2014 (no advisories) and road tax to end June 2014 too - although that's free.  

Further detail:

The body and paintwork on this one look utterly gorgeous  overall. with  nice deep paint. and it's totally straight down the sides. with beautifully fitting doors.  Being ultra critical: a very small touched-in scratch just behind the scuttle vent flap. 2 small bubbles just under the waistline on the NSR door. and a couple of small chips on the OSR door. . I think the chrome is largely original hence there is a little pitting on both bumpers. with evidence of a possible repair to the centre of the rear blade.      See the video below for a full appraisal of the bodywork

Interior – utterly beautiful and authentic. and commensurate with the history and  mileage (I believe it to be original) . nice wood. leather. carpets etc. A really nice place to be. . All I can criticise is both sunvisors have seen better days (especially the nearside one) but in my opinion a skilled upholsterer could save them without replacing them. and hence losing the patina of 48 years.      See the video below for a full appraisal of the interior

 

 

Starts on the button and it performs without apparent fault - didn't display any signs of misfiring.   hesitancy. overheating etc. with no untoward noises or dramas. just smooth power delivery and a sublime driving experience.  Nothing to criticise at all except the 'overdrive' light doesn't come on when overdrive is engaged - possibly just a blown bulb.  I used to drive S-type's every day back in the 1980's and 1990's. but never had one this good through my hands! .   .
