1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS

If you're confused as to why people refer to Chevelles and Malibus as the same car, it's because Malibu was a trim level of the Chevelle from 1964 to 1977. The Malibu wasn't a separate model until 1978. No Chevelles originally had a woodgrain console. If you see one with a woodgrain console now, it's likely from a Monte Carlo. There was a version of the Chevelle only available in Canada that had a slightly different grille and trim. It was called the Pontiac Beaumont.

If you are going to grab a bowtie Chevelle, 1970 is definitely the year to have. Chevrolet got it all right for this year with the lines, trims and power combination. Our consignment gets it all right with a 2016 color change from black to gray, beautiful trimmings and of course it's a 1970. Plenty of WOW factor in this one so read on, and then come and get it!

ExteriorNear perfect Cortez Silver drapes this car's steel panels which mind their gaps very nicely. Black painted stripes race from front to back and are only broken up by the solid silver painted top, which is also pristine. Dual headlights along with a dual stacked chrome rimmed openings of grille with an SS badge emblazoned in chrome in the center. A lower mirror like bumper, and the dual rear facing cowl induction hood for this 1970 masterpiece. A shout out to the rear bumper with the inset taillights within an inset bumper on the rear of the car, all shiny and new as well. This bottoms off a gracefully sloping downward rear glass and trunk lid which when viewed from the side is THE reason for the visual preference of the 1970 model year. 15-inch 5 spoke Cragar wheels are all around and wrapped by raised white lettered Goodrich Radial T/A's on all 4 corners. (Consigner states the original 15-inch rally wheels will come along for the ride upon purchase of this beauty).

InteriorYou'll be seeing black on this interior with just fabulous black door panels nearly showroom, wonderful black vinyl buckets up front that have a neat textured checked insert in vinyl to add some extra interest. A rear bench, paves the way with black carpeting and a sleek black plastic molded console that morphs into a brushed aluminum panel topped airplane throttle styled shift lever that eventually dies under the dash. A black textured faux leather panel covers the dash front and houses a rally gauge pack with the 3 deep circular gauges in the center of the wheel, and some other vitals surrounding. This car has the original AM/FM radio installed within the faux black leatherette, and the floors are flooded in black carpet. As for the headliner...you guessed it more pristine black vinyl with vent holes throughout. Just really well done and preserved inside and a beautiful contrast to the gray exterior.

DrivetrainA great looking orange blocked 396ci L34 V8 graces a very clean and restored engine bay. Chromed valve covers, sandblasted exhaust heads, and a chromed air cleaner cover add to the mechanical jewelry, and it just goes on and on. A single 4-barrel factory carb is atop, and a 3-speed numbers matching TH400 transmission is on back. A 12-bolt 3.31 posi brings up the back. All in very nice condition.

UndercarriageClean and rust free nearly as close to like new as you can get, we have independent coil springs up front, and 4 link with coil springs on the rear. Power disc brakes upfront, and power drums on the rear, and a stainless steel piped, Flowmaster muffler with chrome tips exhaust cutouts added can be seen. Suspension looks like almost new, as does the floor pans, and unibody.

Drive-AbilityAs usual with these early 1970's Chevrolet muscle cars my decoder and editor clamor to drive these so we flipped a coin and it landed on its side, so we both drove it! (One of the many bennies working at CAM). Anyway, she fired right up with a roar, and we were speeding our way to the test track. Here we found this car to be in ship shape mechanically, running smoothly, accelerating with no end, and cornering like a big lumbering muscle car from 1970. But it was a very enjoyable ride, and we are still feeling like we are in the black of that interior color.

Restoration is a wonderful thing especially when it is done to this level, and this one will not let you down. Deep Cortez Silver paint, classic Cragar wheels, wide black stripes, 396ci engine, and a beautiful rally gauge pack and black textured vinyl interior. Like the original, all the boxes are checked and the i's are dotted as well as t's crossed on this one, so come and get it, it will slide out of here very fast, just like it handled our test track.
