Intro:

This 1986 Porsche 928S is a very presentable driver's car and is in stock specification.  It has just been detailed inside and out.  There is absolutely no rust, there are no accidents, it has a clean CarFax, clean title, and the body is in great shape.  The very uncommon and very attractive Prussian Blue metallic finish (which shifts from blue to purple pending the light) is glossy and in nice shape for the age.  This 928S has its original engine which for the 1986 model year was updated to 5.0L, 288 horsepower, 32 valves, and still is an aluminum V8.  Timing belt and water pump service has of course been performed including an upgrade to the Porkension tensioner kit.  This specific 928S retains its nice shifting and nice condition automatic transmission.  Numerous receipts are included dated as far back as 1997.  Please view the extensive info provided that goes into further detail.

Exterior:

As stated this 928S presents very well.  From about 10 feet away the car looks just about perfect.  The condition should please someone that is looking for an example they can drive, admire, and not have anxiety about getting the car dirty or getting a chip.  The exterior was recently fully detailed having been buffed with compound, polished, and hand waxed.  The finish is very glossy, deep, and looks great for the age and mileage.  The Prussian Blue paint color is quite uncommon, is very unique, and very attractive.  The finish has a purple or blue tint to it pending the light intensity and angle.  It looks like the side of the passenger fender has been repainted as although it looks good, it is slightly lacking in glossiness compared to other ares on the car.  The rest of the car truly does look very presentable, many areas with limited to no wear (ex:  roof, rear bumper, doors, etc.).  The finish has great depth and is lacking issues like orange peel, drips, sanding marks, cracking, etc.  It is either the stock factory applied paint or an excellently performed professional job.  Make sure to look through the photos and see the video as you can see how nice the finish looks!  Due to the age and mileage there of course is some wear which mainly consists of minor chips on the front end, mirrors, kick up areas behind the wheels, and miscellaneous other spots of wear or minor marks.  There is nothing that really stands out or is distracting with the presentation of this 928S.  The chips seem to stand out worse in the photos than in person due to the lightning.  The super detailed Porsche enthusiast looking for perfect paint won't have their needs met but the person looking for a super presentable example that looks just about perfect from 10 ft should find this to suit their needs.

The body on this 928S is in impressive condition.  It prior only had very minor insignificant and few in quantity dings on some of the side areas.  I had paintless dent repair professionally performed to remove all of it.  There essentially are no dings at all now anywhere on this car.  The panels are exceptionally straight and the gaps are also excellent.  As stated, there is absolutely no rust, no bubbling, etc.  There is absolutely no bubbling or issues at all where the side rear glass windows meet the rear quarter panels (which is a common issue on the 928).  The underbody is in very nice shape as are the floors with no issues.  The undersides of the doors, door/hatch/engine jambs have no bubbling, flaking, or issues as well.  The engine bay itself is very presentable with its original finishes intact and in great shape.  The glass throughout is in very nice shape and without issue, but with one thing to note and that being a chip on the windshield (which is not expanding or causing issue).  Lenses, headlights, moldings, etc. overall are in nice shape.  The black rubber spoilers on the front and rear are in excellent condition, as are the rear bumperettes.  The front end is in excellent shape in terms of everything lines up as it should and is not cracked or banged up.  The rims are the proper sized stock rims and are in nice shape.  Their outer surface of the rims could use a decent polishing to look even better but they are presentable enough as they are.

To sum up the exterior, this 928S truly is a very presentable vehicle.  The finish is of professional quality and glossiness and shows expected wear and chips for the age and mileage.  The exterior presentation of this 928 definitely is nice enough to take to local car events and to also admire in your garage.

Interior:

The interior on this 928S has also been fully detailed.  Just like so many 928S there is some leather shrinkage and sun damage on areas like the dash top, top of the steering wheel, top of the shift lever, the rear carpet, and leather panels by the rear side windows.  See the photos and video showing those areas further.  Much of the remainder of the exterior is in very nice presentable condition and in the expected condition for the age and mileage of the car.  The door panels on both sides are very nice.  The carpet throughout (besides the hatch area) and stock floormats are in very nice shape with the deep blue color still present.  The driver seat is in very nice shape for the age with only some minor typical wear on the left side bolster.  The passenger side seat is even nicer.  The rear seats are in good shape.  The center console, gauges, switches, and etc. are in nice shape for the age.  The spare tire and tools are present.  The shelf that goes over the spare is right now just some wood pieces.  The original radio is present.  It works but I am not sure if I had the antenna plugged in all the way as it was finding stations but not clear (yes, the windshield is the stock one with the antenna in it).  There are various other markings here and there like on the headliner and leather in the rear.  The interior can be enjoyed as it is or one could replace components as they drive and enjoy the 928S.  Either way, the interior is a nice comfortable place to be.

Mechanical:

This 928S overall is well sorted.  You can get in, start it up, and drive it long distance dependably.  The main components (ex:  engine, trans, etc.) perform as they should and check out to be healthy.  Consistent maintenance has been performed and as stated receipts date back from 1997 and go up to 2018.  Just like any car that is of this vintage and complexity, there is always something to further sort out so please keep that in mind.

The battery is only a couple years old and turns the engine over well.  The engine starts well and settles into an idle by itself (see the cold start video clip).  The engine does not puff out any smoke, does not consume coolant, or have other glaring obvious issues noted.  These are very interesting engines and quite advanced for the era.  The powerband is so smooth while still offering some nice top end pulling power as to be expected in an exotic sports car.  The engine sounds very good in the engine bay and the exhaust as well.  The exhaust retains its stock catalytic converter and the system is in very nice shape so California people this 928S should meet your state's standards.  The engine runs at a  proper temperature, even if it is hot out.  At 108,142 miles in September 2010 the timing belt, water pump, and belt roller were replaced including the upgrade to a Porkension Tensioner kit ($499) which is an excellent upgrade that keeps consistent tension on the timing belt without adjustment (unlike the stock setup).  Please Note:  as of spring 2021 the super common issue of the odometer ceasing to function has happened.  This is a very common issue as there are cheap plastic gears in these gauges.  What happens is pushing the trip reset while driving the car can strip, ruin the gears, and make the odometer inoperable.  The CarFax and receipts verify the mileage to be proper.  For example, in fall of 2018 the mileage is listed as 113,418 on a service receipt.  The odometer currently shows 114,143.  The prior owner was an older gentleman that drove the car sparingly, only in nicer weather months, less than 1,000 miles per year during his ownership since 1997.  The odometers can be sent out for repair, which I had done on my prior 1987 928 which had the same issue.  I will also point out if you would like any maintenance performed, at your expense, prior to the 928S being shipped to you there is a highly respected Porsche mechanics shop with very reasonable rates only 10 minutes from my residence I could take the car to if you desire so.

The transmission shifts as it should and without issue.  There is no whining or other issues to note related to the remainder of the drivetrain.  The suspension is in stock spec.  The rear shocks seem a bit worn and could use replacement at some point.  There are though no clunks or issues noted with the suspension, the 928 can be driven and enjoyed as it sits.  The brakes are excellent with absolutely no issues to note.  They have recently been serviced.  Also included are two new rotors and brake pad sensors (the brake pad sensor warning light recently came on thus the new sensors could be swapped in at some point).  The tires are matching Goodyears in the proper size with much tread left, are a bit older, but are not dry rotted or leaking.  Headlights, brake lights, turn signals, etc. are working.  The windows work well.  The A/C/HVAC system will need to be serviced to get it blowing cold.

Maintenance on some of the receipts includes:

Conclusion

The Porsche 928 is such an iconic exotic car that currently offers excellent value compared to so many other options out there.  It still is underrated in what it is and what it offers.  The 928 is such a useable classic that is very comfortable, spacious, and has plenty of performance.  This specific 1986 928S is a very presentable example that is overall very well sorted.  The unique Prussian Blue finish is in very nice condition and the impressive condition body on this 928S make it a very attractive example.  This is a get in and drive example that can be enjoyed as is, has a solid maintenance history, is accident free, and has a few odds and ends that the enthusiast can sort out.

This 928S is located in Sussex, WI zip 53089.  The nearest airport is in Milwaukee which is about 30 minutes away.   I do not mind helping you find a shipper if you need to transport the car.  I am willing to work with out of country buyers and have sold vehicles out of country before.  Pending distance, I could potentially deliver the car for a fee in an enclosed trailer.
