The Mercedes-Benz Type 300 was the company's largest and
most-prestigious model throughout the 1950s. The Type 300 cars were
elegant. powerful. exclusive and expensive and were often referred
to as Adenauer's after Konrad Adenauer. the first Chancellor of the
Federal Republic of Germany. in office from 1949 to 1963. who
employed six different versions during his tenure. These large
saloons and four-door cabriolets featured many luxury features.
Options such as Becker radio. VHF mobile telephone and dictation
machine were geared to the businessman and politician. The 300b
model was introduced in March 1954. adding vacuum assisted power
brakes and quarter windows in the front doors. Engine power was
increased using different Solex carburettors and a higher
compression ratio.
Retaining many of its original features. the interior of this
300b Adenauer has a splendid patina. The leather trim is nicely
worn but is still very tidy. the woodwork appears to be in good
condition and the clocks/gauges/switches are exactly how they
should be. To be expected. the carpets and headlining have been
replaced at some stage. The bodywork and chrome are in good order
with the exception of the odd minor blemish. This four-door 300b
Adenauer also benefits from a sunroof; a rare option on this model.
Supplied with a V5 registration document and an MoT test
certificate valid until July 2014. this is a highly useable example
of a Mercedes-Benz which offers plenty of charm and character.
