The original Porsche 911. with its famous. distinctive and
durable design was introduced in the autumn of 1963 and built until
1989. Mechanically. the 911 was notable for being rear engined and
air-cooled. From its inception. the 911 was modified both by
private racing teams and the Porsche factory itself for racing. br/>rallying and other types of automotive competition. The original
911 series is often cited as the most successful competition car
ever. especially when its variations are included; mainly the
powerful 911-derived 935 which won 24 Hours du Mans and other major
sports cars races. The 1972-1973 models all got a new. larger
2341cc engine. This is universally known as the '2. 4L' engine. br/>despite its displacement being closer to 2. 3 litres. perhaps to
emphasize the increase over the 2. 2 litre engine. The new power
ratings were 130hp for the T. 165hp for the E and 190hp for the S.
In 1972. a tremendous effort was made to improve the handling of
the 911. Due to the 911's unusual rear-mounted engine placement. br/>with most of the vehicle's weight concentrated over the rear axle. br/>early 911's were prone to oversteer when driven at the limit. and
could easily spin in the hands of an inexperienced driver. In an
attempt to remedy this. Porsche relocated the oil tank from its
position behind the right rear wheel to in front of it. This had
the effect of moving the weight of almost 8. 5 litres of oil from
outside the wheelbase to inside. improving weight distribution and
thus. the handling.

This stunning Porsche 911T was imported from the USA to the UK
two years ago. just after it had received a complete rebuild and
modification to RS specification. to the highest of standards. The
engine was replaced with a fully rebuilt 3 litre engine from a
911SC. a G50 five speed gearbox fitted and the suspension upgraded.
The rear wheel arches have been widened and the seats are from a
later car. Since the car has been in the UK it has been looked
after and fully maintained by a Porsche racing specialist based in
Surrey. This Porsche 911T is supplied with a V5C registration
document. an MoT test certificate which expires in October 2014 and
the old test certificates from when the car was imported. This RS
recreation offers all the thrills. looks and sound of the original
car but at a considerably lower price and as early 911's are
becoming more sought after by collectors they are regarded as a
very sound and usable investment.
