MERCEDES 450SL AUTO CONVERTIBLE FOR SALE AS PROJECT (1980) Low Mileage (69,808)  It is with reluctance that I sell this great car. With its silver body and blue hard top, it is a real *head-turner* of a genuine classic. The car has been dry stored during my ownership. Prior to 2019, work had begun on lovingly restoring it, then everything stopped during lock-down, as I had to work from home. I would love to finish the project, alas due to unforeseen circumstances, I cannot. When fully restored, these cars can fetch £35K upwards and will be an enjoyable asset.  The car failed its last MOT, some "easy to fix" things (headlamp aim too low, rear fog lamp not working) and some that require work - like suspension mounting corrosion.  What has been done: Both inner wheel arches have been replaced with brand new panels. I have put zinc primer onto the backs of the panels that I have replaced, and coated necessary areas with underbody sealant. Both rear wheel arch repair panels have been replaced with new. New RH boot section panels. Rear sills have also been repaired with new panels. Chassis rails/box section have been replaced with new. The rear bumper support has been powder coated. What needs to be done: Boot floor needs new panels (I have the panels). Rear light panel needs replacing (I have the panel). The fuel pump was seized in 2019, I have a new pump, fuel accumulator and filter). The engine bay needs some minor repairs. There's a rust hole under the hard top that will need sorting. The driver seat will need re-upholstering. The car will need new tyres and a new soft hood. All panels have been purchased from The SL Shop.  Good bits: The fuel tank is good. It has the original radio and interior. Original Mexican Hat spare wheel is good. Transmission is good - the car is silky smooth and runs beautifully (when running). The exhaust is also good. The rest of the body work - doors and front wings are good. The bonnet and the boot are good. All original Mexican Hat Mercedes wheels are good too.  The car has had 8 owners (including me). It didn't have any service history when I bought it. It does have the owners manual present, and the V5C.
