Forget the pumped up coupés, the DCT gearbox boasting crackle tune newbies and the bloated rep-mobiles - here we have a true Mac Daddy M-car.
One of only 891 left hand drive examples produced, this 1992 BMW E34 M5 Touring (June build month) is a proper legend holding the title of both BMW M Division's first wagon and the last hand built M car.
Powered by a sonorous 3.8 litre six-cylinder paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and rear wheel drive, this was a sledgehammer of an estate when launched and something of a unicorn today.
The car has virtually every factory option and is listed as an 'individual' build on the VIN records, with the desirable double sunroof, black headlining, rear door blinds, auto climate control, heated electric memory seats front seat armrests, auto dip mirror, cruise control, Nurburgring suspension package and more.
The car has been owned by a collector for the past seventeen years who kept the car in storage for six years. He later decided to reduce his collection and narrow it down to just his favourites, which of course meant the M5 stayed. Throughout his 17 year ownership the car has always been garaged, whether in London or at his villa in Cannes.
Once the decision was made to keep the M5, it was decided it deserved some recommissioning. The bumpers and side skirts were resprayed and some minor cosmetic paintwork attended to, with a full professional detail carried out alongside refurbishment of the original staggered 'throwing star' wheels.
All four brake calipers were refurbished and new discs, pads and brake hoses fitted. Various suspension arms and bushes were replaced. The engine and gearbox were also removed and refreshed as a matter of course, with the engine stripped and found to be in excellent condition. Nonetheless the fastidious owner had the rings, bearings, chains and all seals and gaskets replaced.
The cylinder head was stripped and refreshed as necessary with new exhaust guides and a very light skim with the water pump and various hoses also replaced. The clutch was replaced as were the clutch hydraulics, all gearbox seals were replaced as were any worn gear linkage parts, along with the prop giubo and centre bearing. The air conditioning system has been recharged and a new drier filter fitted. All of this work was carried out by a BMW specialist.
The car has managed to avoid trademark E34 rust issues, with clean sills, floors and jacking points. The car has covered some 185,000 kilometres in 29 years and retains original book pack and service book.
Now begrudgingly for sale due to old age, the car will be sold with a fresh MOT and is available for sale at our West London showroom now.
