(Please note: If you happen to be viewing this 1979 GMC K1500 Sierra on a website other than our Garage Kept Motors site, it's possible that you've only seen some of our many photographs of the truck due to third-party website limitations. To be sure you access all the more than 140 photographs, as well as a short start-up and walk-around video, please go to our main website: Garage Kept Motors.)

"A good truck can be the start of a long friendship." – Period GMC Pickup Truck magazine ad headline

Hagerty characterized the attractive design of the 1979 GM pickups this way: "Whether Chevrolet or GMC, the General's third-generation, 'square-body' trucks were a dramatic departure from the company's previous efforts. The third-gen models featured squared-off front and rear fascia, subtle body contours honed by wind-tunnel testing, a more accommodating and ergonomic interior, and even an available crew-cab body, a style decades ahead of its time."

Offered here is a perfectly maintained, time-capsule GMC K1500 Sierra pickup in Light Camel metallic over tan. Since being delivered new in California, the truck has traveled a remarkably low 5,696 miles. That's fewer than 150 miles per-year on average! Its excellent overall condition shows how owner pride, attention to regular servicing, and extremely low mileage can result in a virtually timeless vehicle.

The exterior Light Camel metallic paint shows beautifully on every surface, with no indication of fading or other damage. Indeed, the truck appears much as it did the day it was driven out of the dealer showroom 42 years ago. A black fabric cargo-bed cover is installed to protect that area of the truck, while the cargo bed itself has a hard-plastic liner in place. There is absolutely no sign of body damage anywhere; the truck's front grille and tailgate are perfect. Chrome front bumper and rear bumpers are in excellent condition as is the truck's cargo bed. All emblems and identification-including the front GMC grille emblem, side model-designation emblems, and the GMC logo painted in white on the tailgate-are properly in plave. Lighting lenses and cabin glass-including the sliding rear window-are perfectly clear and undamaged. Chrome-finished steel wheels are mounted with outline-white-letter Summit AT Trail Climber® tires.

Inside, the perfection theme continues. Literally every surface, every control, every aspect of the interior fully merits that description. The pictures in the photo gallery could've appeared in an original magazine ad for GMC! The combination patterned long-wearing fabric and vinyl seat upholstery deserves special attention; its design (appearing as checkered tan and white from a distance), is an particularly appealing style to the present day. The black GMC-branded steering wheel frames the classic GM truck instrument cluster, with a factory push-button AM radio still mounted. Even the indicator needles on the instrument appear brand new. The shift lever for the 4-speed manual transmission is floor-mounted alongside the transfer-case selector lever. The truck is equipped with auxiliary fuel tanks left and right which are selected by way of a dashboard switch. Cabin floor carpeting is protected with thick-fabric matting.

Under the hood, the venerable 350-cubic-inch GM V8 has been maintained in a clean and well-ordered engine bay. All components are correctly mounted, and no modifications are evident. In the same way, viewed from below, the truck's chassis is complete, original, and undamaged. As a California truck, only minor surface rust is present. Again, there is no sign of damage of any sort.

All build tags and VIN markings are present and unaltered. The truck's "service parts identification" label showing all original factory equipment, the original owner's manual, the truck's original title, and a GMC promotional brochure from the period are all included in the sale.

While the more than 140 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '79 Sierra K1500 in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

This truck would undoubtedly look fantastic in your collection and/or garage; however, with how original and pristine it stands, the GM Heritage Center would be the ideal backdrop. It fits the bill.
