Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is excited to show off this 1970 Chevrolet Corvette LT1 ZR-1!

It was 1970, the year when monster big-blocks arrived from GM, so it took something very special to attract respect if you wanted the nimble prowess of a small-block. Chevrolet did just that in RPO ZR-1 Corvettes like the one offered here. The LT1 was the latest iteration of the venerated small-block V-8 that had shown up in 1955, and this 350 CI powerplant would go down in history as one of the most desirable packages to own. In 1970 only, the engine received a factory rating of 370 HP and 380 lb-ft of torque, due in large part to 11:1 compression, a large 780-Cfm Holley carb, a solid-lifter cam outfit, and transistorized ignition. The internals was all heavy-duty, with a forged crank and 4-bolt mains. The company sold 1,287 LT1 Corvettes, a scarcity due in part to a short production season and the high $447.60 cost, more than $140 above the price of a new 454. Moreover, this version lasted just one year, with detuning and lower compression being part of the 1971 follow-up. The car hire has been given a comprehensive refreshing to correct specifications. Purchased new at Surf Chevrolet in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, it features the matching-numbers CTV Suffix 350/370 HP ZR-1 engine, backed by the Muncie M22 4-speed transmission; LT1 packages were too wild for a factory automatic that year. This coupe is painted in rich Donnybrooke Green with a corresponding green interior and tinted T-tops. It has both power windows and the AM radio, as well as the 160 MPH speedometer and a special 6,500 RPM redline tachometer.

In addition to the LT1, the ZR-1 package included an M22 rock crusher 4-speed heavy duty transmission, J56 Heavy duty power brakes, transistorized ignition, special aluminum radiator and a suspension that included special springs, shocks, and front and rear stabilizer bars.

Production of the ZR-1 was limited to 1970-1972, the same three year time span of the LT1 engine. During that three year run, only 53 cars were ordered with RPO ZR-1: 25 in 1970, 8 in 1971 and 20 in 1972. The ZR-1's of the 1970's are the rarest small block Corvette ever produced.

The finishing touch is 15-inch Rally wheels fitted with redline tires. Provenance accompanying the sale of this car will include the factory Protect-O-Plate, the framed partial tank sticker, and the original owner's manual. The LT1 ZR-1 has been noted on occasion to have been the best small-block Chevrolet introduced during the 20th century, and this car offers terrific possibilities to its next owner. All original glass. Power windows. All gauges work. Car is missing A.I.R. System. The only modification from the original is added power steering. Reproduction red-line tires. 63,101 miles. Documented car; tank sticker and protecto-plate. Car shows very well. Starts right away with no smoke. Shifts smooth. Sold new at Surf Chevrolet in Pt. Pleasant, New Jersey.

Comprehensive restoration to correct specs, Matching numbers CTV Suffix 350/370 HP engine with 380 ft/lbs of torque, 4-speed M22 Rick Crusher transmission, Donnybrooke Green, Power windows, AM radio, T-Tops, Rally wheels, Redline tires, Protect-O-Plate, Framed partial tank sticker, Owners manual. 1 of 25 Produced. National Corvette Museum Verified.
