First registered August 1980 this superb MGB Roadster with only 19,200 miles recorded is a one off with a wonderful back story. The first keeper (Mr R.G Williams) ordered two MGB Roadsters from Caffyns at Deal, we understand these were the last two MGBs to come off the production line prior to the LE run-out cars. Mr Williams accordingly took delivery of his two cars, one for himself (this one in Carmine Red) and one for Mrs Williams in Vermilion. There is a photograph on file showing the handover of both cars to Mr and Mrs Williams. However, only Mrs Williams car was used. Mr Williams car was immediately garaged and wrapped in sheets and blankets and thereafter inspected regularly. In July 1990 Mr Williams sold the car into the trade (Frosts Cars) and the car was then acquired by its second private keeper a Mr Alan Eccles of Chigwell for 14,900 with 25 miles recorded (invoice on file). It amused us to see a letter on file from Mr Eccles to the Rover Group PR Department in January 1991 expressing his chagrin that he had been unable to redeem the 1,000-mile free service voucher (albeit 11 years later!) with his local Rover Dealer, however, we cannot see a reply on file from Rover Cars. There have been five subsequent recorded owners, (although it seems possible that two of these may have been in the trade). There is a wealth of documentation with this car, in fact two box files with too much to relate here however it makes a charming read. In-short a very original car that has never been welded and today remains totally unmolested with its original Rostyle Wheels, Hood and Seats making it one of the few examples of a factory correct specification MGB Roadsters remaining (although we could always fit wire wheels and leather if required!) Pure examples such as this with ultra-low mileage come along very rarely; probably better than money in the bank!
