1992 Mercedes-Benz 500SL

Quite simply the finest early R129 we have seen. This 500SL is in extraordinary original condition throughout.

When launched in '89 the R129 wowed the world with a car that leapt into the future in technology and appearance yet retained the timeless elegance that made SLs so special. It was the car everybody wanted, rendered all its completion obsolete and waiting lists rapidly grew. This car is of that first generation identifiable by two-tone paintwork, amber indicators and 15-hole wheels.

We supplied the car to its last owners and have looked after it for them for the last five years.

Finished in Blue Black metallic with black leather interior and a black hood, it is comprehensively equipped with automatic climate control, heated/memory seats, power-fold mirrors plus driver's and passenger's airbags in addition to the usual refinements.

Supplied to Japan new and imported by ourselves in 2016, the car had evidently been perfectly stored, sparingly used and regularly serviced – conditions that have continued since being in the UK.

As a result, this car remains in time warp condition with pristine paintwork, unmarked grill and other anodised trim and perfect original hood with clear original plastic windows (still with MB logo). The underside is that of a three-month-old car – zero corrosion, factory paint marks and completely untouched. Matching Continental tyres all round.
The inside is similar. As the photos show there is zero UV damage and the leather of the seats is still satin, yet they have never been reconnolised.
The speedometer now wears a MPH/KPH face, and the audio equipment has been upgraded to a contemporary Blaupunkt.
The hardtop (not photographed) is also unmarked and comes with a stand. A fitted indoor car cover is also included.

Full service history from new. Maintained by ourselves over the last five years to the highest standard.
All original books and two remote keys plus the normal key and the rarely seen key presentation box.

On the road it is a textbook example of how one of these great cars should drive. It still feels new. All accessories work as intended.
