Registered in May 1989, this series 460 G-Wagen has only 122k miles. With a comprehensive service history file that includes 19 stamps within its service booklet, plus many recent receipts for works carried out by a renowned Mercedes specialist. Finished in Astral silver metallic paint (code 735) with unmarked grey check cloth trim. In addition to the standard equipment, the car has power steering, upgraded interior trim, ball type trailer hitch with 7 pin socket, headlight wash/wipe and 15'' wider alloy wheels & enlarged fenders. The development of the G-Class started in 1972 with a cooperative agreement between Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Graz, Austria & Daimler-Benz. The team in Graz developed the production plans whilst Mercedes-Benz engineers in Stuttgart were in charge of design and testing, The G-class was also developed as a military vehicle from a suggestion by the Shah of Iran (at the time a significant Mercedes shareholder) to Mercedes and was offered as a civilian version in 1979. The original 460-series Gelndewagen went on sale in 1979 & was offered with two wheelbases, a short wheelbase (SWB) of 2,400 mm and a long wheelbase (LWB) of 2,850 mm. Three body styles were offered, a two-door SWB convertible, a two-door SWB wagon and a LWB four-door wagon. The two wagon versions were also available as windowless two-door Vans (or Kastenwagen) Being assembled in Graz, the car was sold as the Puch G only in the Austrian, Swiss, & Eastern European markets. This LWB 280GE G-Wagen represents a very rare opportunity to own an OEM original example that has undergone a full cosmetic restoration in 2019, with extensive mechanical works carried out by a Mercedes specialist service centre.
