First registered August 1988 (F Reg) this excellent 300 SL (R107) is finished in Signal Red with Beige check cloth interior. It has 82,000 miles recorded which has been confirmed by the previous owner which is substantiated by the comprehensive Service and MoT History. In 1997 the car was acquired by a Mr Lewis who resided near Madia Vale, London W9. Mr Lewis kept this car for seventeen years to 2014 when it was acquired by the last keeper (who was also a W9 resident). Being a post 1986 car, it benefits from the galvanised body introduced in 1986, along with better suspension and improved brakes, finished off with a lower front air dam and 15 Inch alloy wheels. These later SLs are now amongst the most desirable of all the 107 generation. Originally introduced in 1971 the R107 Mercedes SL was a two-seat car with a detachable roof. It was the only roadster offered by Mercedes during its entire 18 years of production. The 2,962 cc six-cylinder in-line engine produces around 190 bhp providing a top speed of 130 mph (where conditions allow). In 1985, Bosch KE Jetronic was fitted to this model. Accompanying this car is the Mercedes Benz Maintenance Booklet showing the car was supplied by Macclesfield Garages - the Pre-delivery Inspection Stamp being present and then at 1,500 miles and 6,000 miles by the same. There are then seven Mercedes Benz Main Dealer stamps recorded to 43,000 miles in 2000; this includes four at Normand Mercedes in London in the hands of the penultimate keeper a Mr Lewis. In 2014 when the keeper of the time acquired the car he immediately consigned his newly acquired SL to the known marque experts the SL Shop for a comprehensive overhaul, the invoices totalling over 8,000 for this overhaul are on file, the job list was exhaustive and included full corrosion investigation with age related deterioration addressed including inner cavity wax, new tyres, new engine mountings, new soft top, engine and gearbox service. Again in 2016 the SL Shop carried out further maintenance to include a new heater and exhaust. Additionally, the large file that accompanies the car has numerous invoices for maintenance work in the hands of the last keepers and sheaf of old MoT certificates. This, in our opinion, is a very good example, with a known history. These cars have appreciated nicely over the past six years. As the earlier Pagoda roofed cars have attained six figure values the R107 has filled the gap. Many R107 SLs are still used as daily drivers attesting to their comfort and suitability to modern driving.
