Gorgeous Glenn Pray Auburn 866 Speedster in a hard-to-find color combination of Black over Red Leather interior! Showing only 7,400 original miles, this time capsule remains in all original condition! Powered by a 460ci V8 and automatic transmission, with power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning! A fine collectible and future investment!!

The original Auburn Automobile Company closed its doors in 1937, with the balance of the factory parts and inventory being sold off to Dallas Winslow, a purchaser of companies that filed bankruptcy. Mr. Winslow would continue to sell these Auburn parts from the original Auburn, Indiana administration building to Auburn restorers and enthusiasts keeping these wonderful cars on the road. Fast forward to 1960 when an Oklahoma school teacher and longtime Auburn & Cord restorer, by the name of Glenn Pray, would purchase the newly named Auburn Cord Duesenberg Co. from Dallas Winslow and move all the remaining inventory to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Glenn Pray would quickly begin reproducing high-quality Auburn Boattail 852 Speedsters replicas using an authentic, original Boattail body as his basis, with molds generated to exacting standards. Ford Motor Company would supply the convertible chassis, as well as the big block engine, transmission, and rear axle assembly. Pray's original Auburn prototype was created in 1966 and tested for nearly 40,000 miles while being shown throughout 1967. With only minor tweaks necessary, they were finally offered for public sale in 1968 and continued to be built for collectors thru 1981. Today, Glenn Pray Auburn 866 Speedsters are well-respected as being some of the finest Second Generation examples and welcomed in the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club tours and club events.

We are very proud to have the opportunity to offer this 1973 Auburn 866 Boattail Speedster by Glenn Pray. Finished in original Dupont Black Lacquer over Red Leather interior, with matching red body pinstripe. Options include 460ci-4bbl V8 engine, C6 automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, Stewart Warner instrumentation, 14" chrome wire spoke wheels, American Classic 235/75R14 radial whitewall tires, highway gearing of 2.75:1 with limited-slip, air horns, AM/FM/8-track cassette radio, reverse light, tilt steering column, dual outside mirrors, Lucas headlamps, and cabin tonneau cover!

This example was acquired in October 2020 from the previous Connecticut owner of the past 30 years with just 7,435 miles on the odometer! It retains all original paint and interior upholstery, both now showing mild aging and normal signs of use. Overall, we feel it is a remarkably well-kept unit that continues to impress all who see it firsthand! Do to the fact it was owned primarily as a static display over the last several years, it required throughout reconditioning by our museum service staff to make this special car road worthy once again. Over the past 6 months, we methodically went through all systems to include flushing the fuel system and cleaning the fuel tank, rebuilding the carburetor; re-coring the original radiator, installing a new heater core, all new radiator & heater hoses, heater control valve; rebuilt the air conditioning with new condenser and retrofitted to modernR134a refrigerant; brand new tires & tubes, all new exhaust from the manifolds back; all new brake master cylinder and wheel cylinder at all four corners, turned the drums, and utilized our upholstery shop to produce a brand new convertible soft top!

The under-hood presentation is exceptionally clean with factory fresh presentation. One can see the passion in Glenn Pray's vision to reproduce such a beautiful automobile down to unique details that were important. The brass body tag lists this as production unit #128. The dual exhaust ports from each side of the engine remain functional like the original supercharged models of the 1930's, along with a locking golf bag side door! A full size spare tire hides behind the front passenger compartment, along with a beautiful fitting Black Stayfast cloth soft top and Plexiglas side curtains. This example will come with two sets of keys, a freshly serviced, and clean title with model year production listed as 1973 Auburn. Act quickly on this one! Glenn Pray Auburns like this one do not come on the market very often!
