1940 Ford Other Pickups

I started this build 5 years ago. and have been driving her the last 3. I drive her all year and never had a catastrophic failure. I have been in aviation for a little over 30 years. and I didn't cut corners on this little truck. All electrical connections are shrink wrapped. Nothing chafes on the frame or anywhere else. It is a 1940 Ford body. brought from SD. The frame is a 31 Olds from the same area. The frame is boxed on both sides from the radiator to past the differential with 1/4 steel. Painted with Rustoleum primer. then with Rustoleum satin black. The body is the color nature gave her. but I painted the bed to match as close as I can. ( besides the bed was yellow. not a yellow fan) Roof has dents. I didn't care. hope the next owner doesn't. The doors are rotted through the bottoms. but still act like doors. The passenger door doesn't open from the INSIDE ONLY. It does work from the outside.  The original maroon color is on the cowling. Pin stripes by Dirty Dang. The floor is one sheet of 16 gauge steel. The grill is a 39 Ford truck. Headlights. ???.  The radiator is 67 GMC industrial. and has kept her at a cool 180 degrees. The front end is a Speedway 4 inch drop 33 Ford with a buggy spring and shocks for front suspension. and Speedway radius rods.  It has a Speedway Vega box. She goes down the road as a straight axle car would.  Crowns in the road really make you pay attention when driving her. Straight flat roads. she is awesome. If you are used to rack and pinion. you would need to take it easy. and gradually get used to the difference. I cant emphasize this enough. Straight axle is a whole different animal on an open winding road. The engine is a Chevrolet 283 power pack. 89 octane. nbsp;with hardened valve seats and a 30/30 Duntof type cam from Comp Cams. They call it the "nostalgia cam". The serial number on the heads trace to Corvette. dual carbs. ($1200 on the market) Also added to the engine is a double roller chain and PRW aluminum roller rockers. It has solid lifters. so it has the real old school sound. I have had older guys tell me they haven't heard this for a long time. One guy knew exactly what cam I had in her! She will run all day if you let her. My friends and I did the engine last winter. Engine also has been ported.  The intake is an aluminum Edelbrock Performer. Aluminum tall valve covers to make room for the rockers. There is a small leak from the front of the engine. haven't checked it out. but again. very slight. I have only used Brad Penn 10W-30 oil. The rear springs are ????. Custom exhaust from Action Muffler. The bed is from a 62 Jeep pickup. It was shortened to fit the frame. The tail gate is from a 53 Jeep. and sports the Willys/Overland logo. The rear end is a 240 Dana. and really helps her cruise down the road. The battery box is from a 65 Ford Econoline van. and I had the louvers added to keep the battery cool. The 18 gallon fuel tank is from Tanks Inc. Comes with an internal electric fuel pump and sending unit. Fuel regulator is on the firewall. The bed is covered in some old pine board I found. All glass is new. I do not have side windows. Never got around to getting new regulators. but new side glass will be included in the sale. Cowl vent is functional. and is needed on hot days like today. All window rubber is new from Steele. Wiring harness is 8 circuit. All lights work. including a very bright set of LED tail lights. No turn signals. or parking lights. The headlight switch is from Speedway. and handles park/low and bright. There is a green bright light ind. on the dash. No speedometer. It has a Speedway straight steering column with a 62 Cadillac wheel. The wheel is on a spline attachment and with the pull of a pip pin. the wheel can be taken off. and put back. She carries Auto Meter gauges. and all work except the fuel gauge is not accurate. Tach on the dash works. I found an old cup holder in the garage that looks to be from a bathroom in the 50's. and it is there for my coffee. Lokar shifter is for the 350 Chevy trans. Seat was custom made from a guy in Dayton that sells his seats here on eBay. Carpet is on floor. doors and seat base. Inside was painted with POR-15 along with the bottom of the bed.   I used a Mexican blanket for a headliner. I added insulation for the roof to keep it cool.  This was a joy to put together. because finding the parts to make this go down the road safe will never be duplicated. There are a lot of jalopies out there. but not like this one. I never get tired of the positive comments. thumbs up and smiles. (Bettie) has also inspired a handful of guys to go out there and create their own. This truck is on the 2017 calendar cover of Sin Studio Tattoo/ Quaker Steak restaurant. also on Crusin' Times magazine intro page 11/16. and she has a 4 page spread in issue #43 of Rat Rod Magazine.
