Seller's notes: Car is a daily driver, traveling around 25 miles round trip each work day. Has new tires on front (slightly larger than stock). Paint is poor, some minor through rust on doors and rear quarters, interior is disassembled (most parts come with car, some may be missing). No working climate controls, but all parts including A/C compressor and condenser are present. Stops, turns, and runs well. Possesses a lot of unique trim, most of which is in decent shape. Clear Texas title in my name.

1979 VAM American (license-built AMC Concord) 2 door coupe for sale
Current customer rating: (431 votes ) based onVehículos Automotores Mexicanos was established as its own company 1963 after the Mexican Government passed a law to control the privately owned SOMEX (Sociedad Mexicana de Credito Industrial). the parent company of Willys Mexicana S. A. (established since 1946 as a local manufacturer and distributor for Willys-Overland Jeeps and used both the names VAM and Willys Mexicana on its products) that held the license to produce and import AMC Ramblers. Willys Mexicana was transformed into VAM in 1963 after an agreement between American Motors Corporation (AMC) and the Mexican Government. At the same time. AMC took a 40% equity interest in VAM. but did not actively participate in the company's management. Government content regulations required VAM vehicles had to have at least 60% locally sourced parts.
This car was built in Lerma. Tabasco. Mexico in 1978 or 9. It was a high-optioned car. with a factory alarm. air-conditioning. and a cassette player. It has the 4. 2L AMC six-cylinder topped with a single barrel Carter YF. providing it with. moderate acceleration. It's relatively thrifty for something this age. Strangely enough. it does have a smog pump on it - I wasn't aware Mexico required this equipment in 1979. Due to the Mexican content laws. this little guy has a lot of really neat details. here's an incomplete list:
Special VAM center caps and wheelsCrinamex rear windowMexican-built voltage regulator (still works. but half the name is rubbed off. I think it's simply Industrias Electronicos Mexicanas. )VAM-casted single-barrel intake manifold with their emblem embossed on the top. Windshield washer fluid tank (plastic) with their emblem embossed on the side.
I think that. most likely because of their content laws. many of the updates available to the U. S. models weren't available to VAM. The ignition system. for instance. is the same as that of a 1976 or earlier AMC Hornet.
How does this car currently drive? It tracks almost completely straight. leaning very gently to the left. I couldn't manage to balance the wheels. but it can get up to about 70-75 mph fairly easily even with the slight vibration. It also stops fairly well. having some pretty nice single-caliper disc brakes up front. It's slow to get moving. but it'll move. It has been very reliable for the past few months after I sorted out a fuel issue (had to clean the tank). I use it every day getting to work and doing chores. All the lights work as far as I know. although one wire in back is flaky.
What are the problems? Mostly cosmetic. Needs interior sprucing up (or redone) although it's perfectly serviceable. None of the creature comforts (radio. tape. A/C. or heater) work. The exterior needs minor rust repair and a better coat of paint. The top isn't vinyl. by the way. just textured paint. The paint is both cracked in spots and just plain ugly and flat everywhere else. The fuel gauge works only up to half a tank - most likely a sender problem. I couldn't find an actual replacement for the sender. so I tried cleaning it up but it didn't work.
